Aw gee, only 15 seconds off my record for a Sunday NYT crossword. I'm sure I lost at least that much time by using the phone keyboard.

"Did you know," said the man on the street, "that both Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky wore special nuclear-powered armour, to play hockey, and basketball respectively?"

I acknowledged, "I had not heard that."

Pool day four:

On the one hand, I'm glad I tried yoga first. It opens all your muscles and makes it much easier to float.

On the other hand, it turns out that one can get too acclimatized to "in through your nose, out through your mouth."

Snork and phooey.

Today's adventures in the water -- my third time to the pool -- included blowing bubbles through my nose for up to 7.5 seconds, swimming 25m of backstroke with [terrible form and] only two rest breaks, and swimming 25m of front crawl with [ibid.] only five rest breaks.

After a couchrot grumpmorning, I dragged myself to my bike shortly after noon, and it turns out that's where my energy lived.

In less than three hours I've been to the gym, to the pool, and through the park; I've taken time to read; and now I'm treating myself to exactly the lunch I want.

Woot!

Knowing full well that Eurovision is usually won on politics as much as on music, and also knowing that I am deeply unaware of EU politics, I am hereby rooting for Latvia tomorrow.

It's been two weeks since I was browsing this year's Juno nominees, and stumbled across the album "Pub Royal," by Les Cowboys Fringants.

I love this album very much, and want nothing more than for everybody else to hear it too.

I think I might be writing my first new piece of serious music in about five years.

First came an idea for chord mutations, which slowly, over about a week, started to build into a progression. Arpeggiating the chords for a few days brought me an ostinato bass. Today I started working on a melody.
April 15, 2025 at 5:29 AM
I am probably spending way too much mental energy trying to decide whether this chord is a B-mu or a C-flat-mu.

Apparently this is the morning my brain sings me filk lyrics about fat oppression.

We recently segued out of The Ronettes' "BMI Baby," and now we're on to Peter Gabriel's "Mock the Chunky."

Thanks, brain.

Face ID is a great technology for situations where the face and the face-reader are *very far apart* until the moment when the face wants access to the Thing.

In every other situation, it's the digital equivalent of tacking a note on your door saying the key is under the potted plant.
