Or the UNHCR definition of a refugee differs somewhat from the UK government's definition. I am just a bit suprised by the high number for the UK. Compare with www.gov.uk/government/s..., though I didn't read this document in detail.

I think you might be mixing/confusing total immigration numbers with the number of refugees. Looking at the UK, the 600k number is the total net immigration, including economic/job/study immigration, I believe?

My background is in geometry, so for me covariance is an inner product of vectors, and inner product of a vector with itself is norm squared. But that just rephrases the question in the language of vector spaces and understanding of the inner product. Still, it might give some visual-ish intuition.

Additionally, there is a very useful and simple R package here.r-lib.org that handles relative paths effortlessly. Famously recommended by Jenny Bryan github.com/jennybc/here..., who might come and set your computer on fire otherwise :-)

Gavin, you probably already tried but there is a way to ask Royal Mail to correct their database - www.royalmail.com/personal/rec... . It worked for me years ago when my address was missing.
