31 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone, It's New Year's Eve - or Old Year's Eve - depending on where you live and celebrate (or not). One of the traditions for New Year's Day in my family was to eat black-eyed peas. It was believed that if you did not consumme them on the 1st of January your year would be full of tragedy.

Hello Everyone, Today Don is being moved from one room to another and will eventually have his own private room with a window - I hope - later today. The constant change is difficult for many people. He prefers everything to be the same and for no bright lights or noise! I can relate to that! Toby and The Girls are fine and Nellie is going home in a couple of hours so I can begin to process all of this.

30 December 2025 Hello Everyone, Great news from the American Eagle Foundation. It is official. Beau and Gabby have a pip. This is what I have been waiting for - and what joy this little one will bring. 29 December 2025 My dear friends in Bird World, I cannot thank you enough for your best wishes. It isn't easy to express how much your kindness and letters of support mean to me. I am as fine as fine can be under the circumstances. I slept for the first time last night. Nellie is going home on Tuesday and after she leaves I hope to begin processing all that has transpired over the past few weeks over hot mugs of tea.

26 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone, I want to thank you again for all your wonderful letters of support. Dementia has touched so many lives. Anyone living with a partner or parent knows that, like those sad events in Bird World, we do not anticipate the tragedies that will befall us. As I last wrote, my husband's Lewy Body Dementia had, for an unknown reason, taken a sudden turn for the worse.

25 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone, I had to write to thank you for all the letters and notes you have sent me, wishing me well for the holidays, for the short notes each day, and for the good wishes that the new medications for Don will work. You have no idea how much I appreciate each one. I am overwhelmed by the warmth and love of our Bird World community.

23 December 2025 Hello Everyone! Good Morning. -17 C and overcast. No sun in sight. It was a great night. Our visiting canine, Nellie, settled in and slept through the night - and so did the rest of us! We woke up refreshed. Toby and Nellie headed out with Ellen at 0930 while 'The Girls' had their breakfast in peace. When the dogs got home, Don and I looked at the four sad bananas on the counter and set about to make banana bread.

23 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone, Calm has settled in with the dogs and cats. Nellie tested me to see if I would feed her continually or provide endless treats or allow her to stay outside in the snow longer than her arthritic back legs could bear. 'No'. Nellie is a quick learner. Toby and Nellie are waiting or Ellen to show up at 1500 for their walk - a treat for me for the holidays is a dog walker for the entire period coming twice a day.

22 December 2025 Good Morning, You won't be short of eaglets to watch over the holidays! They are coming quickly. Two quick notes. There is a pip at the nest of Clive and Connie at Captiva. 22 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone! Yesterday was the Winter Solstice. From now on, we will have a tiny bit more daylight, which is always welcome. Sunday was bright and sunny, and there is nothing better to energise a weary body after days of snow and grey than bright light. The Girls certainly enjoyed having those beautiful rays of warmth fill the conservatory.

20 December 2025 Good Afternoon Everyone, Oh, my goodness. I have not seen so much snow in so long. Our weather was so lovely for so long - well into late, late November. Everyone believed we would be clobbered by snow, and we certainly have! It's Saturday. Tomorrow, Nellie arrives, and she will be with us for thirteen days. Nellie is a Retriever - a huge White British Retriever.

19 December 2025 Good Afternoon Everyone, Oh, my goodness, what a day it has been. I have made a couple of videos for you. Still, you do not get the intensity of the heavy wet snow blowing down. We have had more than 20 cm of snow in our garden in only two hours! Ann braved the storm, which let me shop in the neighbourhood, stocking up on cat and dog food, along with any provisions we were missing.

18 December 2025 The wait is now over. E26 is officially named and hatched. What a marvellous, strong little eaglet! This one is going to keep M15 and F23 busy. M15 brought a fish for 23 and they shared it. Thank you to the Pritchett family for their streaming cam so that we can join in the fun and love of this fantastic eagle family.

18 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone, The calm before the storm on Wednesday night. It is nearing 2000 and the blizzard that is to hit us is slowly beginning. Brock was outside eating, and I hope he filled up and will tuck himself in for the duration, wherever his bolt hole is. His heated mat is to arrive on Sunday, but with the weather, it and all other deliveries in the Canadian prairies could be disrupted.

17 December 2025 Cilla Kinross has identified the adult with the Galah as Diamond. That adult looked so small to me I thought it was Gimbir.

17 December 2025 Oh, that beautiful strong female - the first daughter for Gimbir and Diamond - has taken her first flight. Time: 08:46:19. Diamond came in with prey four minutes later but no Girri. Diamond left. Then Gimbir came in with Galah. Hey - where is she?!!!!!!! Congratulations. I hope the weather is wonderful and we get word of Girri soon. Thank you to Charles Sturt University and Cilla Kinross for the privilege of watching this amazing peregrine falcon family in Orange, Australia.

17 December 2025 Hello Everyone. Good Morning! Tuesday was a wonderful day to go to the zoo. While Don was walking and soaking in the fresh air, Toby and I were walking in the neighbourhood. Toby got soaked. The 4 °C temperatures melted the snow, creating lots of fun puddles. When we got home, I quickly warmed a couple of towels in the dryer and rubbed and rubbed, hoping Toby wouldn't catch a cold.

16 Decembert 2025 Hello Everyone, I cannot tell you what a strange day it is. It is now +4 degrees C. The snow and ice are melting. The sky is heavy with cloud, and the wind is beginning to pick up. The forecast calls for a change within four hours: cold, very windy conditions and snow. Ann has taken Don to the zoo.

15 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone, Thank you so much for your get-well wishes. I am better. Not great but definitely better. The forecast promised warmer weather at the beginning of the week, following the Extreme Cold Days. It is currently -12 C, but it will warm to -6. Tomorrow, as promised, Ann and Don are going to the Zoo. I know - the zoo in Winnipeg in the middle of December.

15 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone, I had intended to stay in bed all of Sunday, but that didn't happen. This cold still lingers, perhaps worse than Saturday, but I was tired of being inside and needed the fresh air. We got dressed, including that amazing Swedish faux-fur bomber cap (it really is a game changer), and took Toby outside. The City had cleared all of the walkways, which was very nice, but it also revealed some ice patches underneath - not so lovely.

14 December 2025 Hello Everyone, It's cold! I tried to make the forecast bigger so that you could read it easier. We are under an extreme cold warning. Still, the birds and squirrels were at the feeders, and dear Brock came for food several times. I noticed that he spent a lot of time eating the dry kibble that Calico enjoys.

13 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone! Today, it was -22 degrees C. It was cold. Despite this, Ann braved the cold with Don and Toby to go for their walk along the river. It's funny. We know winter is coming when we complain it's too hot in summer. Still, it takes time to get our heads around the fact that we do need to find all our winter kit.

12 December 2025 Good Morning Everyone! Hello! It is -9 C with soft snowflakes falling on the Canadian Prairies. Toby has been out for his walk with Ellen. Because the snow is deep and wet, he wore his boots, hat, and his insulated play suit. He wasn't so happy. Look at that grumpy face! He sure had fun, though, once he was outside.
