Adding this reply too - because yes, there is historical precedent to Valve doing this. Black Mesa had to drop the "Source" suffix from it's name when it went onto Steam.

The guidelines DEFINITELY need a rework though. The 'better' name examples are in one single format, there should be subtitled examples too (i.e. Portal Revolution, Half Life MMOD) because I'm seeing a lot of people take what's being said at face value.

This all also only applies to projects releasing on Steam for the record. Valve historically turns a blind eye to mod projects outside the platform except in incredibly rare scenarios like when they reached out to TF2C and OF years ago.

This was definitely not something Valve did because they secretly hate modders or something. I've seen numerous occasions where people mix up the names of TFC and TF2C given they're one character off from eachother, so the fact they've encouraged they do a rebrand makes sense.

Valve has updated the Source SDK Guidelines on Steamworks in regards to mod names in response to Team Fortress 2 Classic.

The TL;DR is that they want mods to have clear names that indicate they aren't games by Valve, so you can't use subtitles like 'Source' or 'Classic'.

the only way this could happen is if FRIEND's full appearence we see in Ch3 was the first FRIEND drawing, whch then entails Toby probably accidentally did something like this while cropping out the fact for FRIEND's ch2 appearence:
