Trying to build cool stuff. Did AI before it was cool. Ex-Google, Ex-Apple
Which nose and mouth bands do you recommend?

Great that those have been resolved. I think Linux and battery life have never been good friends, but honestly depends how bad it is. If I can get 6h of actual use: few containers+editor+browser, I'm happy

Also: totally unrelated, if I remember correctly you mentioned somewhere you have a framework laptop. What do you think of it? I'm concerned about build quality (particularly long term - I read about some issues with the laptop screen shaking) and battery

Being honest, I prefer yours. It catches my eye. The other one I wouldn't pick up

Hey Michael! I subscribe to your newsletter. In it you mention your Kickstarter, but provide no link to it! Even on the blog post, I couldn't find any link (although I only skimmed it). Seems like a lost opportunity

Don't hurt me, no more

I agree with this take. There's for sure new stuff that can be built. As a warning of someone who has worked quite extensively on PDF parsing at work, I warn you: if you can, avoid it like the plague 😂

The way I read it is different. It's not about growth, but the fact that the fundamentals are the same: what differentiates you from your competitors and what makes it hard for them to copy you. If your product is "XYZ but with AI", XYZ can quickly catch up because they have the data

What are you trying to achieve? I am not convinced AI is sufficient differentiation for a startup. It's an accessory. Your advantage needs to be something else, even if you do AI.
@asmartbear.com articulates it better than me: longform.asmartbear.com/ai-startups/
AI startups require new strategies: This time it's actually different
The typical dynamics between startups and incumbents do not apply in AI as they did in previous technology revolutions like mobile and the Internet. Ignore this at your peril.

I hadn't heard about it and it seems like an interesting project. Thanks for sharing!

Unrelated question: why codeberg?

Interesting observation about career pressure. Hadn't thought about that. There really aren't free lunches

I've been reading these for the last 5 years - always great! Glad you're enjoying self employment again! And congrats on your son!
Reading your post made me realize the one advantage of employment: no revenue loss during paternal leave 🙃

Really appreciate this, Michael! I've been following you since I read your "why I quit Google", and I love the transparency. You share the good and the bad bits. Appreciate it!
