I mostly agree, although I included the chapter because I think it would be interesting to see the adaptational choices made to this point and have those in mind when watching the rest, even if you don't know where the story is going to go.
The thing that I'm most interested to see in the anime of Ikoku Nikki / Journal With Witch is how they handle the later chapters, when the storytelling gets increasingly asynchronous and impressionistic. After the first few episodes, I'm increasingly confident the directors will nail it…

…and also that they're going to come up with something very different from Yamashita-sensei's approach in the manga, which relies on the qualities of the printed page (closure between panels / pages, juxtaposition, no / panel borders).

Please please please pick up the manga! It is my favorite manga / comic / graphic novel. I really want the anime to do well enough overseas to justify it being licensed for English publication, but there is a complete scanlation at the usual places. The anime is up to chapter 13 in the manga.

Despite the gradual decay you kinda can't escape nowadays outside of powerhouses (and even then), the organic linework is basically the most satisfying animation philosophy on TV right now too. One of those secretly drawing sickos anime

…so it's been incredibly gratifying to see the care with which the animators have adapted the delicate and alternately shoujo and BL stylization to anime, and the way they've used color in place of the watercolor washes Yamashita favors in lieu of screen tones. I am a drawing sicko, and I approvel.

The manga has the somewhat esoteric and elite tag "non-moe art" on one of the sites hosting its scanlation. Yamashita Tomoko's art and character designs require a certain level of care when being adapted to anime, and is the thing I was most concerned about when I first heard about the adaptation.

my hopes weren't high when I saw the first trailer, but they have gone incredibly hard on the location detail and giving it a definite sense of space and location. I've been to a bunch of locations in the anime, and I recognized them immediately.
