I wouldn't be embarrassed. Macs are really great for creating. If you can hold out Apple is releasing a bunch of new machines and upgrading existing ones this year. I personally love to game and make art so I am on Linux, but I also have an iPad pro for drawing. I love using Procreate.

What is your current OS and machine? If you're tech savvy I recommend giving Frame Work machines a look. They can run on windows or Linux and are made to be modular and repairable.
