"A writer is one to whom writing comes harder than to anybody else." (Thomas Mann)
she/her. I'll write a double dactyl about anything.
When I got to the room, I looked at the receipt. She had given me a pilot's discount.

About 18 hours into what was supposed to be a direct three-hour flight, I found myself in an airport hundreds of miles from my destination, no rebooking in sight. Wearily I asked the desk clerk at the airport hotel for the cheapest room they had. "You got it, Captain," she said. Captain?

Also absolutely no understanding of prose style. Rice wasn't the most literary writer who ever lived, but she did HAVE a style, and fans ploddingly stringing sentences together don't know how to imitate it, or even that there is something to imitate

And grocery stores! I remember seeing a sign in rural Virginia that said "Remember there is no smoking in the checkout line." I always wondered why that was the exception.

I didn't get to see it in person, but we loved the catalogue for this queering medieval art exhibition at the Met. The Virgin Mary and St. Elizabeth holding hands in the form of a betrothal was a real standout.

Mapping the Queer Landscape of Medieval Europe
A new exhibition at The Met Cloisters makes the case that gender and sexual fluidity were an essential part of Medieval religious art.

The shingles vaccine hit me very hard, and yet I am so, so, so grateful it exists. So grateful. I have several friends who suffered through shingles and it is HELL ON EARTH. I would take that vaccine with all its discomfort a hundred times over actual shingles.

My impression is that there was a child-horse character that someone claimed was sexualizing the child. The devs replaced that character with an adult, but the Internet has latched onto the idea that the game sexualizes children.

I love imagining her saying of the KJV "it's a book I've been reading". These people skim the first couple chapters of Genesis and just assume the rest is kinda like that. It's like my students who call everything longer than 30 pages "a novel".

I was an enormous fan for decades, but subscribing to his newsletter cured me of it. Just endless iterations of "feminism has gone too far" and "asking artists to be less racist is censorship, actually"
