Won't post much as I have no insight or expertise, but sometimes forget that when drunk with the power of a keyboard. Pronouns whatever. Writer, editor etc. of ESL materials in Prague. Interests here: Politics, climate, SFF, linguistics, i dunno

Huh. Never had this notification before. I love the idea that they're going to turn up on the doorstep with my download in a box. (Oh, and happy book birthday to @caimhmc.bsky.social!)
A notification via gmail with a little delivery van icon and the text "Ring the Bells from Audible. Expected today" and an option to track the parcel.

Someone needs to get the language philosophers and other experts in speech acts on the job.

Don't focus so much on the slice of remaining centrist Tory voters that you lose the larger electorate who put Labour in power with a landslide. That's a massive and unhappy constituency within easy reach - unless you convince everyone that you're here for the lifelong Conservative voters instead.

They want a world where they can enslave their gods

Minus the apology, this is exactly what I said with the narrative design around AI in Sword of the Stars.

If you create a consciousness, it is your child.

Only monsters enslave their children.

It is morally wrong to want a computer to be sentient. If you owned a sentient thing, you would be a slaver. If you want sentient computers to exist, you just want to create a new kind of slavery. The ethics are as simple as that. Sorry if this offends

I don't feel hopeful about much these days but the quietly relentless march to renewables despite propaganda, greenwashing, climate denialism, broken policy etc etc makes this good thing feel inevitable. It could be even faster and better, but it's *happening*.

The SPOLU alliance were the top spending digital advertisers for the election in Czechia. Winner Andrej Babiš' ANO 2011 party only the third biggest buyer.*

I'm not at all convinced - but she's not saying what people think she is, and it's an idea that's at least worth mulling over.

The point she mostly stresses is that using the language (& thought processes) of abuse (slurs, violent language etc) *of itself* desensitizes the user to being abusive. The hostility to a thing is easy to transfer to people and thus is bad / harmful. She sees the dynamic playing out in that thread.

I really want to leave this country. Unfortunately my own country has made it impossible for me to ever go home.

Czech election result is a fucking disaster. An alliance of a populist right party led by a billionaire oligarch, a far-right and an anti-environment party are likely to now form a majority government. Expect a pivot away from support for Ukraine and to Russia plus social conservatism. Fuck.

Curious. The MSNBC report I watched (with the security cam footage) said it was the first video of the arrest. (I looked for MSNBC as that's who Kash name checks above.) Maybe because the CNN video didn't show the arrest itself? Idk
outeast.bsky.social
That said it was fucking ludicrous. A big team of armoured agents with long guns in a night-time strike to arrest the Twat in the Hat.
outeast.bsky.social
I hadn't thought so but checked & couldn't find any MSNBC footage of Bannon or Navarro's arrests. They *did* show footage of Stone's arrest - a month after the arrest, and on home security cam footage released by Stone himself.

Does it work with cables?

This is true but... not good. The dynamic of critique in the online world is beyond anything humans are generally adapted to. Almost everyone fails this test. It limits "leadership suitability" to a tiny subset of personality types who don't necessarily make good leaders at all.
gwensnyder.bsky.social
Watching Jay, I realize I am simply exhausted by folks in positions of leadership who are driven to distraction by critique.

If you can't function with critique and pushback, a leadership position is not for you.

Leadership REQUIRES you to absorb and process the critique of stakeholders.

My kids voted for the first time today! And are both braced for horrible disappointment, which is so depressing. I'm happy they voted but the utter lack of hope for a positive outcome means I understand why so many young people don't bother. They're Cnut on the beach.

I wish the people with real power in our world had the wisdom of the wizards. Under good old Ridcully, obviously.

"had caused the respondent to commit adultery"?!? Good lord! The mind absolutely boggles. What shenanigans did this agency get up to?

And also it just translates it anyway. I just checked. It's not a bad story though - dumb tattoo anecdotes are always good for a sneer.
