Former journalist, then charity PR, now a one-man waste of NHS resources. Undercover Lancastrian in Hertfordshire.
It also needs a willingness on the part of patients, families and professionals to talk about death. That's the hard bit.

So while I welcome this report and that it is getting parliamentary interest, I also worry that I'll be welcoming the next one in about 2032. And again in 2040.

Two things are true: 1) all of us will die, and less than 10% of us will die so suddenly that EOLC doesn't come into it; 2) We know how to provide good EOLC for most people - pain management, mental support, good quality of life. But it requires coordination, skilled staff, and money!

All of the findings of this report are sound, but they were also sound when Ambitions for End of Life Care was published in 2021 www.england.nhs.uk/publication/... and before that and so on. As my former boss said when another EOLC strategy was launched: "We need fewer strategies and more care."

When I was 17 I went abroad for a year in a high school exchange, and I effectively disappeared from my old life. When I came home there were whole cultural, political, sporting and social phenomena that I'd completely missed because even big national news didn't travel back then.

The Americans absolutely nailed it. Wrapped up the main story, yet left enough unsaid that we, the audience, could imagine what happened next for the main characters.

Ofcom figures from *last month* show that more UK adults regularly access Wikipedia than X, and that X reach and usage is in steady decline: bsky.app/profile/outs...

Even if you choose to ignore all of the foul content there, it simply isn't that popular and is becoming less so with time.
Interesting headline figures from Ofcom's latest report - fewer UK adults using X than Wikipedia (or Tesco online, for that matter.) Fulll report www.ofcom.org.uk/media-use-an...

There's a special form you can ask for that lets you register your child as a FREEMAN OF THE LAND but it's only available from an office north of Inverness with no parking so you'd better hurry, chop chop, off you go, don't come back without it.

You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! Never get involved in a land war in Asia; Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line; and never make an anon opinion about rail capacity!

Perhaps it really was just a random Alsatian 🤷🏻‍♀️ But the wolf was shot dead at Ickleford a couple of days later. Four years on, my dad joined the local paper as a junior reporter and made a career writing these sorts of stories. He still likes to tell this one after half a century 😆
