The last thing Trump wants is someone with integrity, someone governing in the best interests of Venezuela, as President. Ms. Machado would just get in the way. So much better to use the Maduro holdovers, in debt to Trump, and having already sold their souls, happy to serve the next caudillo.

This, however, is valuable, as symbolic of general public knowledge of "merit", including journalists, politicians, business people and presidents. We are jerked around by incompetent Dunning-Kruger people making policy such as No Child Left Behind AYP, quietly abandoned, having crashed and burned.

Ah, the modern uk conservative party, soon to be the former conservative party, before everyone defected.

You've unified what heretofore looked like a combination of several factors - dwindling govt support for public ed, enrollment declines/cliff, incompetent administrative planning/overbuilding/debt. Now Trump/MAGA mangling research $'s & higher ed itself. And the hapless marks paying the price.

Off on a tangent here, but if you have a moment, there is a hilarious recap of the Stewart case screwup at abovethelaw.com/2025/10/afte...

Hey @bsky.app why is this still showing up 10 days after it happened? Think I'm a fan or something? Then I'd know about it, wouldn't I.

Why does everyone from the "old world" look so bedrock, dependable, calm and competent. And everyone now looking so fragile and uncertain. Maybe because that's how they seemed then, as part of enduring institutions, and because that's how they are now, with everything falling down. Nice picture thx.

That second world they enter is apparently a ghost franchise of Kenny Rogers Roasters.

Well, I think is the best idea of the year.
"Prime Minister, would you consider awarding President Trump a peerage?"
"I haven't considered that."
"Would you rule it out?"
"It's not something I'm thinking about."
"What if he reduced tariffs?"
"I don't negotiate in public."
"Are we negotiating now?"

"Hunter Biden's Laptop"? Come on man, you're making it too easy. Buh bye.

Doesn't RFK need to appoint her to something? Tell him immediately!

The point is not logic, it's to punish everyone opposed to Trump. So Minnesota & Walz get it. Everything has been based on pretext and fakery since day 1 in office. In an obvious way. Given "deference" by the Supreme Ct., obedience by the Republicans, and euphemism by the press.

Where is America's Blair?

Nah, everything will double - artists, patrons, contributions - when all this crap is over. And the tears of the likes of Megan.

It's JB Pritzker, impersonating Leno.
December 28, 2025 at 5:40 PM
And the press are enthusiastic enablers. It's just another enticing opportunity for "both sides", for controversy, and to attract eyeballs for arguments. With not a thought for what they're doing to the country, to history. If they have a thought it's "If I don't do it, everyone else will anyway."

"Government interference" can cover a lot of things. Like a phone call to Bari.

If you're 65 now, full retirement age is already 67. Doesn't, and shouldn't mean that you can't receive benefits at 65. It's your retirement $, you should be able to access it. This is just an argument about reducing benefits. You wanna be 65 with no income? Only for other people, right?

Their only (flimsy) rationale for having Denmark make a deal to turn over Greenland was that we would use it to defend the free world from Arctic incursions by the Russians. Of course by now we've told Europe to eff off, we're not defending anyone. And we're (still) besties with Putin. Now what?

Any administrator resisting firing this faculty member would themselves immediately be fired (or forced out) by the Texas A&M system Chancellor. They can't afford to lose this one. A lot of ugly history to this case. www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/edu...
Texas A&M paid former president Mark A. Welsh III $3.5 million after he resigned  | Houston Public Media
Welsh had pushed for a full payout of the remainder of his contract, something that appears to have been a source of tension between Welsh and top administrators, records show.

Thank you for using the "E" word in connection with Trump. His entire administration is based on extortion, threats, and bribes. Using taxpayer money, mostly not his to withhold, and American military threats.
