I’m open to being wrong. How do you reconcile OP’s original argument? If we are in solidarity with strangers, by default that means we are going to unintentionally act in solidarity with people who do not always respect our identity. There is no vetting process.

In direct coordination we should absolutely demand respect for the way we self-identify. But many on the left are not coalition building. They are just yelling to the masses on social media. You cannot be in solidarity with faceless strangers on the internet because you don’t know them.

I think social media has broken down what “solidarity” means. It’s supposed to be groups of individuals who know each other working with a select group of individuals who know each other because they recognize that their goals align.

I studied medieval lais. I don’t see an academic connection here. The genre has very specific depictions of love and adventure. I have not seen any evidence that Taylor is trying to reference concepts of medieval romance.
