#FDG2025 was an absolute blast! 3rd year attending, 3rd year of it being the highlight of my PhD. Inspiring talks, cool new projects and the most welcoming and exciting community I've encountered.

To all who attended and especially the organisers, sending all of my love. Cannot wait for FDG2026!

Day 2 #fdg kicking off! My favorite event in the academic calendar.

Buddy of mine is trying to use genAI to make assets for his game. Sent me a mesh he'd generated for a basic targeting arrow and asked if I could give it a quick tidy up in Blender.

Opened it up and...lol

After 2+ decades of it being hyped up I've finally been playing Planescape: Torment and fair play, its amazing. I especially love how it lets you add your intent to dialogue choices. Feels so cool every time and i'm shocked I've not seen that ripped off more in other RPGs

Finally watched Alien Romulus on the flight home and it was...fine. But introducing a door that looks like this and at no point having it chop anyone or anything in half is an Art Crime.

Thank you GDC! What a strange, tiring but delightful week. More cogent thoughts to follow but for now: safe travels, and hope to see you next year!

Me about to throw several thousand hours into the furnace of an unwieldy, never to be completed game dev journey

Two nice milestones over on Youtube. Hit 2k subscribers and 200k views on my Skyrim vid on the same day.

Been my first time getting significant online attention which obviously come with downsides but overall I've been loving this new(ish) journey

Week spent in hospital with my youngest was made so much better by this view out our window.

Fire safety door inexplicably leading directly onto a 3 story drop, secured only by the worlds smallest padlock. Perfect black comedic surrealism, 10/10 no notes. Every time I saw it it lifted my spirits

Probably a sign I need glasses, or that I have some kind of gamer dementia, but any time I see the logo for DEL cargo lifts I briefly think someone has stuck the Max Payne box art to the back of their lorry

Playing games to get the most pleasing shots for videos is such a different and engaging form of play. It's completely transformed my relationship with several games and I wish I'd discovered it sooner. My next vid is on Skyrim which I've never loved as much as many, but it is such a joy to film in

I dream of one day making something with a fraction of the stalker series' impeccable vibes. The Zone is easily my favourite open world to just exist in.

Stoked with my Christmas jumper for this year.

Merry Christmas, but do not forget our adage

Absolutely wild but incredibly cool email to receive!

See you at #GDC2025 I guess. Anyone got any good recommendations for what to get up to in San Francisco?

Place I'm staying for the week has no desks so I'm doing all of my work and gaming standing at this set of drawers and...

I kind of love it? Have standing desks ruled this whole time? Why did no one tell me

Survived my first Half Marathon over the weekend! They were kind enough to warn before the photo point or you'd be getting a sadder face and a more accurate impression of my experience

Still wild to me that OpenAI advertises DALL-E with image pairings like this. It makes it so clear that subjective evaluations are treated as objective truth by the folks who make and train these systems, which feels like saying the quiet part out loud

Wrapped up Cyberpunk's DLC last night and still reeling from it. Most emotionally impactful experience I've had in a game in quite some time. Beautiful, bleak and poignant in the best possible way. Hats off to anyone involved

Hello BlueSky! I'm a games and AI researcher in my final year of a PhD, based in London.

I also love making games, 3D art in Blender and most recently, video essays about game design, so expect to see me posting about all that while i'm procrastinating over thesis writing.
