REACTION: Oxfam response to Trump-Putin Alaska summit on Ukraine ceasefire

Full reaction here: oxfam.org.uk/mc/ybyoc3/
Oxfam Ukraine Response Director Nicola Bay said:

“No decision about an end to this war can be legitimate without Ukrainian voices at the centre. What Ukrainians need is just and lasting peace. What the world needs is for international laws designed to protect civilians from the devastating impact of war to be upheld without compromise. Without these protections, we risk further eroding the safety of civilians and setting a dangerous precedent wherein powerful states will be emboldened to redraw borders or strip away sovereignty at will.

“Oxfam welcomes the agreement for further discussions next week. We caution against any further political dialogue that excludes Ukrainian voices and treats their land as a bargaining chip, as it undermines international laws on sovereignty and territorial integrity, and risks triggering another wave of attacks that will plunge Ukrainians, already enduring over three years of war, into deeper suffering and uncertainty.”

“This is a tremendous victory, not just for the brave young climate defenders from the Pacific Islands who took their fight for justice from a classroom in Vanuatu to the world’s highest court, but for us all. Rich countries like the UK can no longer deny their legal obligations to rapidly and fairly reduce emissions to protect universal human rights such as to life, food, health and a clean environment." REACTION: The #FFD4 showed the challenges remaining to meet the Sustainable Development Goals - but also the power of international cooperation.

👉 oxf.am/ffd-reaction
Seville showed that considerable challenges remain to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals. But it also paved the way for governments to build more coalitions to tax the super-rich and finance care, and put equality, democracy and sustainability at the core of their efforts. Quote by Hernan Saenz, FFD Global Lead of Oxfam.

In a tense geopolitical environment, Spain, Brazil and South Africa have taken an important step in forging an alliance here at the UN conference in Sevilla to show political will for taxation of the super-rich. Now other countries must follow their lead and join forces.

REACTION: Oxfam response to the Climate Change Committee's Progress Report 2025

Full reaction 👉: oxfam.org.uk/mc/upryb2/
Natalie Shortall, Oxfam GB Climate Justice Policy Advisor, said:

“While some progress has been made, this report shows the Government must do more to ensure climate policies are fair and bring practical improvements to people’s lives.

“With climate impacts escalating – hitting those least responsible for the crisis the hardest – Government policy must go beyond technological fixes and ensure everyone reaps the benefits from the transition to a low-carbon economy.

PRESS RELEASE: Global survey from Oxfam and Greenpeace finds 81% of people support polluter taxes on fossil fuel companies

Chiara Liguori, Oxfam GB Climate Justice Senior Policy Adviser, said: “Rich polluters are continuing to cash in on climate devastation and their profiteering is destroying the lives of millions of people who have done the least to cause the escalating climate crisis. This survey shows the overwhelming public support – at home and abroad – to hold fossil fuel companies to account for their damages. Governments including the UK must start listening.

Full reaction here: www.oxfam.org.uk/mc/sw7yvw/
Halima Begum, Chief Executive, Oxfam GB: "While Oxfam welcomes some of the measures announced to help deliver key services, this Spending Review cannot disguise the fact the Government is falling short on its responsibilities at home, to our most vulnerable and impoverished communities, and abroad where those living through conflict and climate disaster are seeing their suffering compounded by swingeing aid cuts."
