Australians Against Nuclear
@oz-against-nuclear.bsky.social
A local grassroots Movement Against Nuclear in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.

Nuclear is too slow, costly, dangerous, thirsty, polluting, unhealthy, burdensome and a bad idea for Gippsland and Australia
In another famous win for the little guys, Australia has resoundingly rejected Nuclear!

This was more than just the vibe, this was categorically the Worst idea in Australia's Political History & has deservedly been thrown into the bin as well as those who proposed it.

Western Capitalist Democracies aren't going Nuclear because the Economics don't stack up. In fact, those already with Nuclear have very minimal activity, mostly building 30-60 years ago because the economics have progressively gotten worse, while renewables keep dropping in price

If there's 1 issue worth swaying your vote this election Nuclear should be it.
Nuclear doesn't stack up now, let alone considering the forever burden it is on future Aussies.
It's a forever debt with no energy or economic payback because the inputs are endless.

In one last spit in the face to Democracy, Dutton, so ashamed of his unpopular Policies sneaks through his Environmental DOGE cuts in at the 11th hour, on Friday evening, the night before the election, after 10+% of Aussie have already voted. 🤮🤮

If this Campaign is anything to go off, we're in for complete Trumpian Chaos.
& perhaps this was the only direction it could go, when the most Far-Right Major Party Leader in modern history is proposing ideas like Nuclear that even LNP members have dubbed Socialist

On 2 subjects he has no idea about, the Cost of Living & Nuclear, his costings are way off!
Nuclear is a more costly mistake, 1 of the most risky & expensive plans in Aus history, costing Aussie Tax Payers $600B, raising bills & damaging the economy by approx $4.3T

As Scientists confirm the average American now has 1 plastic spoon equivalent of micro-plastic in their brains, we should be, as a matter of urgency, ending the creation of long-term & forever toxic & harmful chemicals

There's nothing Clean or Green about Nuclear Toxic Waste

Mr. Dutton has been ruthless, endlessly attacking his own ideas from the week before

The Opposition plans to remain in Opposition but Opposes himself as Opposition Leader in their future Opposition to Labor

It's a Nuclear-free zone, his yuge idea turned Toxic ☢️

Introducing the Opposition of the Opposition, who if they haven't flipped on their stance within a week, just need a little more time. This is a rudderless boat, devoid of principles and driven by vested interests, who don't bat a eyelid lying to Aussies!

Vested interests are circling & it's not good for the average Aussie, who flips the $600B bill, bears the risks, watches our Country bled dry, pays higher bills & deals with 20K+ years of Toxic Nuclear Waste

They might smile & have white teeth, but sharks will be sharks

Peter Dutton thought Nuclear Power works by burning Uranium. No wonder they've gone silent on Nuclear!

This is the most Anti-Science Political Leader in modern Australian History, planning to deliver the most complex, risky & expensive plan in our history.

Toxic Nuclear Waste = 20,000+ years
Uranium Mining
2B Tonnes of CO2
Disasters like Chernobyl, leading to cancers, diseases & genetic mutations & now a 155K km2 Exclusion Zone for 10K+ years
Water Consumption
Energy to store Nuclear Toxic Waste, more than it ever produced
May 2, 2025 at 6:30 AM
NUCLEAR HAS A WATER PROBLEM! 💦

Choosing the Thirstiest Power on the Driest Habitable Continent in a Warming Planet is a Recipe for Unreliability and Disaster.

To make matters worse, 6 of the 7 proposed Nuclear Sites are inland
Nuclear will suck the Country dry.

This might go down as the Worst Election Campaign in living memory from the worst Major Party Leader in modern Australian history.

Let's hope Australia remains as Nuclear-Free as their election Campaign!

Say NO to the WASTE!

Surely Australians deserve some answers and details about the riskiest and most expensive proposal in our modern history. We are paying for it afterall and the risks are all ours.

But Peter Dutton has gone missing once again, as he did during the Cyclone. 😬

How long will Uranium Reserves last?
90 Years at current consumption (10% of global electricity production)

So much for Nuclear is the Future

So if Nuclear expanded, as championed, say 1%/year to be 3-fold by 2045, our Nuclear Plants would run out of Uranium in 16 years🤦‍♀️
May 2, 2025 at 2:00 AM
Luckily, the PM who proposed this terrible idea was replaced & a cost analysis in 1971, found that nuclear was, like now, far more expensive than alternatives & the project was shelved

Unfortunately, for us, we no longer have an LNP Leader who cares about cost analysis 🤮

Nuclear isn't a Business, it's a liability & Debt

France's Nuclear Operator, EDF, amassed a whopping US$102.87B debt before the French Government had to bail them out

If Nuclear runs at a debt while producing, imagine the debt we're leaving future generations who gained nothing

There's a well established link between exposure to ionizing radiation from Nuclear & Cancers, Disease and DNA damage, which can lead to mutations. Adolescents & children, particularly under 5 years old are particularly vulnerable. Those within 30km of Plants are at greatest risk

RIP the fiscally responsible Liberal Party.

Liberals Against Nuclear are right in saying "The current proposal to build nuclear power in Australia fundamentally contradicts core Liberal values of lower debt, smaller government, free markets, and less government intervention."
