Some assembly required; load the accumulator
#Pluribus I doubt we’ll learn much about the origins of the virus in S2; it’s not information necessary for the virus to spread. But perhaps the message also said “go listen to the following locations”, and there are more broadcasts from previously joined civilisations that hadn’t been detected /2

#Pluribus I’ve seen some complaints that Carol isn’t asking the right questions. Remember, Carol is grieving, and that grief is being skilfully manipulated by both the joined *and* the writing staff.

#Pluribus Are individuals in the joined able to retain anything “learned” from the joined? I can see a future in which a “cured” Zosia may not be able to speak English
December 24, 2025 at 9:23 PM
#Pluribus We saw that the first human to be infected started running a set of instructions to spread the virus, so you only need one person to be “joined”. If you put an infected person inside a faraday cage by themselves, they’d revert to running the “spread the virus” code, ie start a new network

#Pluribus We don’t know the full content of the message. In “A for Andromeda”, the message was computer blueprints, and code to run on the computer, which then bootstrapped the construction of a more advanced computer. The virus is the computer blueprint. We don’t know the code component, /2

Stupid theory time. Given that the signal from Kepler-22B in #Pluribus was specifically targeted at Earth biology, maybe the joining originated on Earth, around the time of the KT boundary. It arose in a reptilian civilisation (cf “Doctor Who”) which was then wiped out by the meteorite.
December 24, 2025 at 8:35 PM
If the joined in #Pluribus have a “biological imperative” driving their actions, what happens once they have “reproduced”, ie successfully sent a message into space? Do they keep on firing messages off in different directions? Or does the joining fall apart?
December 24, 2025 at 8:21 PM
Well that’s certainly one way to make sure we all come back for season 2 of #pluribus

#Pluribus it took a while to resurface in my brain, but of course: “The House in November” by Keith Laumer. Very much so…
Watched #Pluribus episode 1. So… Fred Hoyle, Stephen King, John Wyndham, Philip K Dick, Richard Mathieson and George Romero.

The more I think about #Pluribus episode 8, the more I think that even if the joined weren’t able to lie at the beginning, they can lie now.

In terms of Asimov’s 3 laws, they’re now putting law 3 above law 1. Then again, they could have been applying law 0 all along…

Pfft, in the latest Pluribus episode they show an HP printer spitting out pages like crazy. I can suspend my disbelief with alien invasions and all sorts of cyber security BS, but a functioning and *FAST* HP Printer is where I draw the line.

Something the teen said raises an interesting question. How did the joining in #Pluribus affect the neurodivergent and mentally ill?

I keep trying to implement what I consider to be simple tasks in @home-assistant.io, and beating my head against unyielding brick walls in HA's implementation. The latest: Why can't I create a group of input_booleans or input_numbers? They're entities, just the same as physical light bulbs. Argh!
