Today's historic pic: 42 years ago today, 1500V DC electric loco L1152 on a VLine Traralgon-bound passenger train departs Morwell, Vic, August 30 1983. Morwell is 144km east of Melbourne on the broad gauge Gippsland line. The line was electrified to Traralgon from 1956 until 1987.
An image taken from a low angle alongside an electrified railway line. Looking up past a grassy area with bushes in flower, we see a streamlined electric locomotive in VR blue and gold livery passing a lower quadrant semaphore signal in the proceed position and hauling a train of tangerine liveried passenger carriages, passes beneath an overhead wiring gantry as it departs a railway station.

You probably don't expect Gardening Australia to be a rich source of railway content - but today it is. And of course it's Kuranda.

Australian COVID-19 weekly stats update:

The risk estimate rose sharply again last week to 1.6% “Currently Infectious”, or 1-in-64. After 7 weeks, there’s still no peak in sight.

That implies a 38% chance that someone is infectious in a group of 30.

Today's historic pic: A Whitcomb diesel rail tractor hauls a train of paper products on the 6km long then-privately run broad gauge APM siding near Maryvale, Vic, December 1984. VLine T class diesels took over from these rail tractors soon after this pic. Trainloads of paper still run here today.
A black and white image taken from an overbridge looking down over a single track railway in a rural location. A goods train running towards us is hauled by a smallish hood-style industrial diesel locomotive painted in a light colour with dark diagonal strips on its front buffer.

Today's historic pic: Exactly 40 years ago today, after having brought the Spirit of Progress in earlier that morning, EMD diesel loco 42217 nears the Cleveland Street bridge after having run light engine through the throat of the yard at Central Terminal, Sydney, June 8 1985.
A boxcab carbody style diesel locomotive in Indian red livery with hi-viz yellow ends sits at the throat of a large railway yard on one of a dozen or so tracks that sit beneath overhead wires. A brick wall marks the far boundary of the railway at left, and at right, the tracks pass beneath a road overbridge that spans each successive pair of railway tracks with a brick or stone arch.

Today's historic pic: Exactly 38 years ago today, C504 hauls a Melbourne-Adelaide broad gauge 'Jet' express goods through Rockbank, Vic, May 30 1987. Since 1995, Melbourne-Adelaide trains have run on standard gauge via North Shore. This line through Rockbank is now a busy VLine passenger route.
A large full width cab hood style diesel locomotive in VR blue and gold livery hauling a train of bogie goods wagons passes a lattice masted bracket signal post that had obviously originally supported semaphore arms but which now carries searchlight style colour light signals as it runs along the straight track through a crossing loop on a mainline railway in a rural setting.
