The CBC did this too. And at first, I said oh, this is just indeliberate copied-off-someone-else's-paper pure sloppiness; and then it thought about it and realized it was going to be policy, deliberate editorial policy, to describe the two groups of hostages differently
This, and copy from places like CNN that use “Israeli hostages” and “Palestinian prisoners and detainees” in the same sentence.
Very jarring how the media treats some lives as inherently and others not.
I am happy for hostages and their families to be reunited, but it’s shocking how little media attention is given to “how do Gazans grapple with the utter destruction of their homes, vast loss of lives, and ongoing famine.”
