Can I quote that last sentence at the beginning of my dissertation?

Reading reviews from different authors helps mitigate cherry-picking, but I still don’t know how credible their arguments are because I don’t know how trustworthy the underlying empirical evidence is. To some extent, science involves some kind of faith, whether we like it or not.

Following the controversy surrounding the p-curve technique, I wanted to better understand how the z-curve (a technique that solves several problems with the p-curve) works. I created a Bayesian version of the z-curve in Stan, and I'm quite pleased with the outcome 🙂

✨️Excited to share my first paper is out in Behavior Research Methods with @rjbinney.bsky.social and @pennypexman.bsky.social! We quantified the association of a word's meaning with reward, showing that it is a dimension relevant to semantic processing.

#hilotesis

Not sure if this works: we found publication bias for brain stimulation studies of embodied language comprehension, but using a novel meta-analytic technique (z-curve analysis) that differs from the more usual approaches.

New paper out now in Journal of Memory and Language!

Across 3 experiments, we observed that the lateral mental timeline (past-left/future-right) only arise when time is relevant for the task, thus challenging the automaticy of this cognitive metaphor

New Preprint! According to perceptual load theory, irrelevant distractor information is not processed under high perceptual load. We show that the presence of a distractor accelerates search under high load, and this effect is modulated by target-distractor distance, reflecting attentional capture.
