How David Moyes and Everton stole a march on their rivals to sign Jack Grealish
A decisive intervention from the manager helped secure the loan signing of the 29-year-old England international

All about balance. They need Branthwaite back and proper right back
paddyboyland.bsky.social
or alcaraz. the reliance on grealish is mentioned in both the post and the linked article btw
paddyboyland.bsky.social
Everton are evolving. Grealish's impact on style clear & they now lead PL in certain metrics (cutbacks etc)

But still issues to iron out. Palace game a reminder that faster tempo, athleticism & more direct play can help at times too

Analysing Everton’s shifting style: Less direct, more cutbacks, better chances
New signings and a new era have meant a change in approach on the pitch. It is still early days but the data clearly shows a team evolving

Sorry mate, I don't do our social media so you'd need to ask them. That said, don't see the problem with the post given he's yet to play here
paddyboyland.bsky.social
For 45 mins, Everton looked laboured & tactically confused. The rejigged setup did not work

Then came the HT adjustments & fightback. Alcaraz, in particular, superb

This felt like the new stadium's first proper 'Goodison' moment

As Everton’s search for front line fluency goes on, their supporting cast steps up
Moyes’ decision to replace Barry and Dibling, over £60m worth of signings, at half-time was an admission of error. It also changed the game
www.nytimes.com
paddyboyland.bsky.social
Yes. They also need to give him proper service though
paddyboyland.bsky.social
Today's view from the press box 🔵

Big chance for Dibling & Barry
paddyboyland.bsky.social
He's also scored some really pivotal goals (Palace, Spurs) that played a part in Everton avoiding relegation at a crucial period in the club's history
paddyboyland.bsky.social
I'm not suggesting he should play up front. I'd rather they gave Barry a proper run. Maybe others are though. Also not sure "disgusting performances" is fair. There have been tough times, no doubt, as he's acknowledged but never due to lack of effort (1/2)

Before being moved to defence in Man United's academy, Michael Keane was a goalscoring midfielder for his junior team. He's now a consistent finisher for Everton - 5 up on his xG since records began

A player who has Moyes' trust

Is Michael Keane the best finisher at Everton?
The 32-year-old centre-half has revived under David Moyes this season and is playing a key role - at both ends of the pitch

or a stately home in yorkshire
paddyboyland.bsky.social
I compared it with his last two seasons at Leicester actually. He hardly played for Chelsea
paddyboyland.bsky.social
Another reminder last night of the gaps in this Everton squad. West Ham noticeably quicker & sharper in key areas & exploited #EFC's makeshift right flank

Diouf, a standout at left back, an example of what Moyes' side are missing

Everton 1 West Ham 1: Sluggishness exposed, Dewsbury-Hall blow but Garner shines
Questions remain about this Everton side following the home draw with West Ham. They look short in key areas and slumped in the second half
www.nytimes.com
paddyboyland.bsky.social
Nothing new really. Lemon doughnuts the only addition
paddyboyland.bsky.social
I wasn't referring specifically to that tbh, more what to expect for the season as a whole
paddyboyland.bsky.social
Wasn't specifically talking about the Wolves game there. That was avoidable, as you say and as I've written. Meant in general terms across whole season
paddyboyland.bsky.social
A positive PL start for Everton. They're 5 points better v equivalent games last season. But last week a reminder that they v much remain a work in progress. Bumps inevitable

A look at the issues in the squad & how they could be remedied

@TheAthleticFC

www.nytimes.com/athletic/666...
Everton are building but there are issues David Moyes is still striving to address
An encouraging start to the season has been undermined with the last week exposing some of the flaws that still exist in the Everton setup
www.nytimes.com
paddyboyland.bsky.social
I don't know if I'd be alarmed as such. But it was hugely disappointing & showed issues in squad. Think Everton will be fine this season. But would be nice if 'fine' was not the extent of the ambition
paddyboyland.bsky.social
You're not the only one to come out with the "taken to task" in press conference stuff. To me, it completely misses the point. It is also a misunderstanding of the role. If pieces aren't an accurate reflection or pull punches then that's a different matter
paddyboyland.bsky.social
Understand the frustrations. Share them, even. But a journalist, the task is to ask questions & to write what we see. To remain professional. Have done that again here
