the same type.
Never verified but it might also regularize similarly to a drop-out layer at the end?

we run a lot of distillation with tiny networks, including regressions. It was often unclear why it worked/did not work.
Label smoothing was certainly a positive effect.
Another is non-conclusive labeling: when clearly distinct values could be the ground truth, the teacher can decide for

AVP is a VR device, VR devices are primarily excellent for gaming, but Apple is a nobody in VR gaming and has never been a gaming company (except for mobile).

And for replacing a big monitor, glasses will be better than AVP/VR: more portable, less isolating, lighter

yeah, we'll never know the internals...

Gurman writes "Even if it can make a headset cheaper and lighter, it still has to figure out how to make the product resonate with consumers." I agree: even if AVP was $500 and 300g, AVP would fail.

Sure. I doubt the article is correct that the iPhone wouldn't have enough processing power and thus limited the glasses to the Mac. Anyways, it's unclear to me why Apple canceled the project (if at all). Only thing I can think of is that the resolution could not be increased over the near future?

I've regularly used the Air 2 with Dex on my train commute. It's fine but working too long with them makes me dizzy. I suspect the adjustable IPD will solve this, though waiting for the Pro. Anyways, I'm pretty optimistic these glasses see a bit wider adoption soon.

yep, it's a race for power and money helps. But your assumption is wrong that the capabilities of a model only depend on money(=hardware+data). Eg DeepSeek proofs this, it's at a fraction of the cost of OpenAI o1. I also know this first hand from tiny models, they can beat huge models if well-made.

No worries, really appreciate the article

Appreciate your State of the Union address of XR land ☺️ Minor: "In a conversation with Kurzweil earlier this year" was probably written last year?

XReal+Samsung
Display glasses like XReal One connected to Samsung Dex can get a big chunk of the 200 units per year PC market. Because bigger screens win, more portable and highly productive even in trains, planes, etc. Titans products can only get a small fraction of markets or markets are small.

as a last resort, sarcasm may help?

Kennedy’s HHS pulls the plug on anti-virus software, citing 'inadequate testing' because hey, why should digital viruses get better treatment than biological ones?

Okok, maybe a bit more serious:
Laptops starting to get replaced with AR glasses and 2 rings

Well, you get to decide what "magic" means, but people often raise their eyebrows the first time using it. It's a ring that turns your desk or lap into a touchpad. It’s going to be great for AR glasses for productivity stuff. Maybe you wanted to hear about.
Also, that's my first Bluesky trace ☺️
