New reality show “Back to the Frontier” on HBO Max has three families spending the summer as Homesteaders in the 1880s. So no, I’m not watching trash reality TV, I am ~researching~ the homestead experience for my JMP.

Great seminar today by @robgillezeau.bsky.social presenting early work co-authored w/ Jeff Chan and Azim Essaji. They use new data on all pre-20th century US land cessions and focus on the introduction of railroads and indigenous land disposession.

Really unfair your best friend can take a job 7 states away and now you can’t barge into her office constantly to discuss anything of minor importance.

At least we have conferences ❤️
Had a great time at the ~Pitt Econ reunion~ oops, I mean the Mountain West Economic History Conference this weekend!

Convincing myself that if Edith and Ida Mary Ammons could move from Chicago in 1907 to a homestead in South Dakota with no knowledge of how to farm, where to get water, how to hunt, really any frontier survival skills and ~thrive~, I can write a 2000 word fellowship app 🥲

Back in July I was set to move out of my rodent-infested former apartment. I went on a trip the first week of July. I returned to begin my move… only to discover the place had be take over by fleas, no doubt from the rodents that were not being addressed by the landlord. 1/

🚨 JMP Alert 🚨

Individuals fail to incorporate information held by their spouses. Is it because they are generally reluctant to learn from their spouse?

I’m on the Job Market! 🚨

Ever wondered how does uncertainty about sources of inequality affects redistribution?
In my jmp, Excuses and Redistribution, I explore how people use excuses to distort beliefs about merit and luck, justifying self-serving behavior. 🧵(1/6)
