PROMETHEUS, acrylic on canvas, 36 x 36", ©️ 2025. I thought this was finished about 18 months ago, then decided it wasn't- there were a number of little things that kept bugging me. Those have been resolved, now I can fucking move on!

Otherworldly Lake Michigan today - southeast shoreline.
Mountains of ice and sand, maybe 12 - 15 feet in height.
As far as the eye can see...

Over the Falls, 2016, acrylic on panel, 6x6".
Private collection.
I painted this on 12/31/16 in response to the first go round with our present malignancy.
I haven't been able to muster a visual response to our current moment as of yet...

Double Narcissus, 2015, acrylic on panel, 6x6".
This one recently sold again at auction. It had belonged to Bret Waller, former Director of the IMA. I was sad to see this appear at auction as part of the estate sale. Now in a different private collection.

#1 Going back to 2015 - here's the 1st piece in the 6 inch square format that kinda set the template for me for the next several years. I'm going to repost a number of older paintings here before I shut down f-book.
Rustic Numerology, 6x6", acrylic. Private collection.

I don't think I've shown this painting before...Dream Tower, 2019, acrylic on panel, 6x6".
Was one of an intended series of paintings culled from recurring dreams. I wasn't sure it was a painting, but several years later I'm ok with it. In my dreams I enter and go up floor by floor.

An early charcoal drawing from Paula Modersohn-Becker. (1899) My pics again fail to represent accurately. I think it may be the best charcoal drawing I've ever encountered. Dark, mysterious, rough, confident, masterful. A wonder. I stand in awe.

In this painting from 1901 Modersohn-Becker 'effaces' her subject. Blank opaque eyes, features blurred. My pic doesn't begin to convey the strangeness of this painting.
The blurred face is also the heaviest texture. Heaviest = most ephemeral. An almost otherworldly paradox conjured here...

Spent Sunday at the Paula Modersohn-Becker retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago. Amazing show!
Waited decades to see her work in person. The show captured almost the very moment of her leap into greatness, into something wholly original.
