Is this time to dust off my idea for an 'average punter' avatar in TV coverage of each sport, so we can truly get a measure of the achievements?

Honestly, these days this is already around 25% of my job....

Keyless entry and start is very much an answer to a question that was never asked. Surprisingly*, made in America.

Definitely - if a scam is there long enough for us to recognise it, it's almost certainly highly profitable!

Yeah, today's Nissan press release seems to suggest the latter??

"Price changes and the arrival of the new grant means that even more variants will fall under the £40K luxury car tax threshold, further reducing running costs for owners."

Postscript to this is that in Nissan's case, we should not discount possibility of intense lobbying of Govt based on their UK presence, to ensure they met the manufacturing criteria...

Indeed - and Nissan like others are now tweaking entry prices to gain access to the grant for the rest of their ranges - and use that deduction to sneak most under the Luxury Car Tax £40k threshold.
August 13, 2025 at 10:09 AM
So far as I know, the manufacturing location can affect the amount of grant, but not be an excluding factor (ie: it's why Nissan only gets £1500 for the Ariya), assuming all other criteria are met.

Suspect it's more tied to their new (from April) “Expensive Car Supplement” tax for cars £40k and above ... seems to be their tipping point.

Agree - and assume this is Reform's calculus as well.

Kia heritage is like American heritage - it's jarringly recent and it's covered in fake wood... 😉 But as a measure of Kia's progress, it never fails to be astonishing.

I think about this every time the "smart" headlights decide to go for main beam and blind an approaching Yaris driver...

My mate works for GWR. The saw in the cab is actually true. They also used to have a hatchet apparently, but that got taken away.

This will be Reform policy by the end of the week...

The worst part of this story is that it could have been written at any time in the past ooh, 20 years - and perhaps because of the ever-increasing popularity (with drivers) and perceived occupant safety of high-riding SUV type vehicles, there's been almost zero design evolution in that time...

At least our British national obsession with talking about the weather now has a recognisable 'Nan' scale, I suppose.

Neither did Netflix. That's why we're waiting three years for a second season...
