Unfortunately our media feed is not indicative of broader society and the actions of American proletariat have done nothing to instill any optimism in my mind.

I agree with your statement but surely they can't feign ignorance when their imperialism and it's effect is broadcast to their phones everyday. If they do, it's willfull ignorance or indifference can't tell which is worse.

Sure there maybe more to it,but even the more vocal minority of American "proletariat" still worship or atleast don't outright condemn the US military and when that is the case I think it's bit naive to assume they would actively be interested in toppling US imperialism.

I think you are missing the point he's making, they did realise a gun can achieve more but they will eventually stop when their needs are met and will stop doing the same in order to dismantle US imperialism.
