Important news from the bone pit:

The council have grassed over the flowerbed in the graveyard so though bones will continue to rise and still surface occasionally, their main escape route has been cut off, and their appearance should be less regular.

I'm on the countdown to Saturday night in the basement at Ziggy Green, Mayfair London. (as everyone knows, Ziggy Green was Ziggy Stardust's real name.) #poetry #Bowie More info in Alt text. See you there?
Poster for Up North, Down South - an event where a bunch of yorkshire poets - myself included, will be reading at the colony room green, accompanied by music from Sister Chain and Brother John - and Clifford Slapper, of David Bowie piano fame. The whole event being in close proximity to where the album cover photo of The Rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was taken.

A Roman jug handle in deep blue glass with a stamped face medallion. A small disc of hot glass was pressed into a mould, then applied to the vessel before the handle was shaped. Many faces are generic. This one is probably Bacchus or Silenus rather than Medusa.
Cobalt blue Roman glass fragment from a jug handle, the base decorated with a small moulded face medallion, probably Bacchus or Silenus. The thick pulled handle rises from the medallion and spreads into two wing-like flares where it would have joined the vessel wall. Surface shows bubbles and wear; object is propped on a clear mount against a bright background.

Found it yesterday in Waterstones. Heard of the book from the publisher’s skeet. Love the cover: ‘To Walshaw Dean’ by Angie Rogers. Many good proses and poems inside. A wonderful project and anthology! Need this more!

Walk

That afternoon
the clouds were sullied
holding their breath of rain,
and the wind
one-handed, shyly
circled the trees again.

It was an hour
when the streets were clear
just an old man, his slowed dog,
and the nearby knock
of a Macmillan Nurse.

It felt like a hole in the day:
where time had fled
and the emptiness left
carried no anticipation.

I thought much of that nurse
and the house overrun
with the dry rot
of cancer,

how perhaps
round a downstairs bed
she helped like a priest,
dissolve the glass,
so the clouds and the wind
could be welcomed.

There are some total spanners beyond the Hookland boundaries, sorry they've got under your skin. I imagine a Hookland stamp might be affixed to it's Basildon Bond with bone glue, post delivered via a very pale 'child' on a Chopper. I prefer Bluesky.

The Jarrow Crusade, in which 200 unemployed men marched to London calling for government intervention to restore jobs, began on this day 1936. Unsuccessful at the time, but helped to shape postwar attitudes to employment and social justice.
