Time for the traditional Life Day porg roast? :)

However, she said each day she was going keep 24 hours between her and the next drink. Each day she'd repeat it. By keeping the effort in small bits, in human-sized terms she stayed sober over 20 years until her untimely death.

I just took that philosophy and make it work for other things in life.

One thing I learned from my late second wife was to take one day at a time. She was an alcoholic and use that to help cope with her alcoholism. She knew that to promise never to drink again was to set an inhuman, impossible goal.

We know some days will be good and some will be bad. We try to enjoy the good ones and have some progress. On the bad days we just do our best to let them wash past us so that we can reach the good ones. We don't hold the bad days against ourselves because we know they can happen out of our control.

My wife and I like to say we have goals, not plans. To paraphrase, plans don't survive contact with life. We just aim for the goal and do what we can to reach them. It's helped us make it through two different cancers and all the associated side-effects.

I'm not anti-New Year's Resolutions, though. I understand that type of structure can really help some folks stick with accomplishing things.

One just needs to be self-aware enough to know if these sorts of things actually work for them. Use the tool if it does the job for you.

I don't do them. While I have long-term goals, Life Keeps Happening™. It's less stress to just say "I'm going to work on X today" without having a set deadline. I don't need the end of a year to be depressing because events made a NYR be impossible to do. One day at a time, adapting to what I need.

Alan Dye, the problematic person behind Apple's software design team for the last decade has left to go to Meta for their design team. The joke is that the average IQ at both companies has now gone up. Dye's replacement is a longtime user interface/interaction designer. Hopefully things get better.

Hopefully the patch goes smoothly. That has to be a big system change for the game.

Yeah, Remix has had a lot of little broken things. For example, Remix Druid form speed is still slow, but the non-Remix version was fixed.

I've started to sort Wowhead comment's by newest-first just to see what is the current view of things. Normally, for me, the highest-rated ones are fine.

Also, as a guide, it is annoying I can't see Newcomer Chat on my Remix characters. Where, you know, I could actually go help them.

This makes me wish the guide option was account-wide, not per character. I can give the same advice on low level toon, a Remix toon, as well as I do on a max level one.

It wouldn't surprise me that the portal was slow to spawn. I've had a similar issue where followup quests took a bit to appear on the quest-givers. I'd get one quest, do that, go back to the quest-giver only to discover I had more I needed to do. Thus I had to redo an area like a Classic Plebe. ;)

I looked around for one and didn't see it. I just followed the quest tracker text to go to Stormwind, found no taxi in SW, checked Wowhead's comments, and hearthed back to Dalaran to use the teleport to the Dalaran crater and flew from there.

I missed it. I have gotten so used to the portals being next to the NPC you interacted with that I didn't notice one outside the chapel.

Still, it is a good mistake to make as it helps me understand, as a guide, when new players are having problems.

So you need to fly from there or Dalaran Crater with the game constantly telling you that you've left the Remix zones & are going to be kicked back to Dalaran all along the way. Thankfully it doesn't, but when you get to Light's Hope Chapel you discover... taxis. Yes, you can taxi back. /sigh (2/2)

I had to post this in my guild's Discord because some folks are too young to get the joke 'turkeys can't fly'.
