I just got back from a workshop on "Multispecies Intellectual History" at the University of Oxford. Philosophy, history, physics, botany, anthropology, art, and other fields were represented in the discussions, and a publication on this is to be expected. Read more here: cas.au.dk/en/umih #envhum

Same here. In most cases it seems to be needless jargon to me. I guess a key tenet of the environmental humanities is that the world is more than human, but that is not a new discovery and it has been written about long before there was a term for it. Ecological thinking, really.

You might know them already, but I think the classics of environmental history still stand, like Donald Worster's Nature's Economy and Carolyn Merchant's The Death of Nature. They have also focused more on the US, like in Merchant's American Environmental History and Worster's Shrinking the Earth.

The "AI" Ghibli images are especially outrageous considering AI's environmental damage vs. Ghibli's conservationist politics. "Princess Mononoke" is about a militant campaign to save the forest. In "Spirited Away" Chihiro frees a river god from trash and pollution.

Finally figured out how easy it is to turn off the annoying "AI Assistant" when reading PDFs in Adobe Acrobat in the browser: the three dots → preferences → uncheck "Enable generate AI feature in Acrobat". AI can be useful, but unwanted assistance is not... Analyzing on my own is how I learn.
