It is all so depressing and awful. At least the afternoon/evening @msnbc shows are calling it like it is now.
A quilt under my sewing machine needle getting the binding attached. The quilt is a circus of colors and spells FUCK over and over again, 47 times. The binding is more hopeful, aspirational. Full of white words on a black background that read such things as love, peace, we are stronger together, justice, truth, love is love, acceptance, you matter, freedom, love has no color, respect, equality, etc.

In my lap is a hoop with a quilt being hand stitched. In the center of the hoop is the word FUCK and the needle is half way through the C. The K is next and then there is one unfinished FUCK left out of 47. Behind the quilt sits my dog, a cream golden retriever, looking past me out the window. Behind her is my living room, a stone fireplace with a wooden whale, a surfboard leaned next to it, Picasso’s Flower Woman print on the wall, a monstera plant sitting on a short table my grandmother made.

You guys wanna see what I did this week while listening to all the ftrump Epstein drama unfold? It’s a barn quilt, that I designed, and taped and painted and taped and painted for way too many hours… i can’t wait to hang it on my garage.

I know it’s a small thing but after 4 seasons of The Royals for it to JUST END like that… we really are living the worst timeline. Now what am I going to watch while I stab this quilt?

The strawberry quilt sandwich is done. I’ll quilt it when it cools off a little and once I figure out what thread color to use.

Some non-political quilts for a change of pace. The strawberries are ready to quilt. Maybe I’ll start that tomorrow. It has cute little surfer girls, sharks, turtles, punch buggies and loads of other I-spy cuteness.
A super cute quilt in progress called Dog Park by Elizabeth Hartman. In front of the design wall where 8 of the dogs are hanging sits my good dog Willow. She’s a cream retriever and she looks like she’s asking why none of the dogs look like her. A scrappy quilt with 9 huge strawberries lined up in a grid. Moda Blockheads 6 blocks in two color ways. One is all bright solids and white, and one is bright scraps mixed with colorful Grunge fabric.

Thank you. The joy of creating feels frivolous sometimes but I’ll keep resisting that too.

This all reminds me of this tapestry my grandmother made in response to Orwell’s book 1984. The words on the side are Swedish and translate to “Happy as the bird in the morning.” It’s a good reminder too.
A wall hanging made of wool thread, made by my grandmother Helen Amundson Williams. It’s her answer to Orwell’s book 1984, a depiction of her backyard, grass, trees, flowers, a pile of logs, a fence. Her strawberry patch. And backyard birds of every kind, on the ground, the bird feeder, a boulder, the fence post. She signed it HAW 1984 and along the side in Swedish it says Glad såsom fågeln i morgonstunden which translates to Happy as the bird in the morning.
