We've got an agenda to sell but we're doing the work and sharing them.

Feel free to DM inhouse folx some are observing quality improve when traffic is stable or declining in organic.

YMMV on industry, offering and how AI-adjacent your customers are (and region).

Prefacing this will sound weird, but I'd recommend trying meditation. Be thoughtless 5-45 min/day

Worse case scenario? You get all the health benefits of meditation.

Best case scenario? You feel pain during meditation. Accept and let go of the pain.

Rand, I hope your body finds a way to heal.

Then again, would that be the best allocation of their capital?

That's a much harder question. It becomes a Reels/Stories situation where you have to think about moats.

You have to really love Sam and/or hate on Sundar.

Time to add that to your GSC annotations as an event explaining that traffic bump (if any).

They need to recharge as much as you do and maybe she's got that magic procrastinator touch that I used to have which personally I'm relying on less and less.

Optimistically, If everyone follows this model, there should be no need for LLMs to scrape all of the web.

It would only have to download directly from the internet archive.

It would be in the interest of the internet to protect collective human knowledge, evolution, and even the bad bits.

So for the website creator, instead of sticking adSense or display units, it's just linking out to an always working version of an external website that helps their site visitor.

User is happy, website owner vouches for that resource because they made an editorial "paid" decision, and maybe they $.

If I am a high quality website that's sending referral traffic to another "vetted" high quality website with relevant things my audience cares about, BUT my business model isn't that of a publisher/affiliate/ads....

I now have a new revenue stream.

This creates an interesting dynamic where editorial decisions to link out and "help" the user comes at a cost to the content creator.

The site linking has data on who clicked. Wayback machine has data on what the people who clicked did afterwards.

The Wayback machine facilitates as a data broker.

Being reasonable isn't cool though.

www.w3.org/Provider/Sty...

My toxic internet trait is I link to external websites via a Wayback machine rendering of their page so that I never have to deal with expired-domains turned you're linking to a porn/hacked site ever again*

*I'm joking.

Somehow associate your name to adult industries so that they'll think twice if they want to trigger SafeSearch?

This is a joke. I have no idea how SafeSearch works.

A good metric used incorrectly is bad.
A "flawed" metric used correctly is good.

A bad metric is by definition bad. I would assume it makes matters worse because time and money on and it does not create positive externalities.

No metric? No action. Sometimes the best thing is to do no harm.
