🌧️ How well do CPMs simulate rainfall extremes?
We compared the VHR-PRO_IT convection-permitting model with records of Italian rain gauges. Results show better performance for long durations: short events are often underestimated, especially in coastal and lowland areas.

Large dams need a large dataset!

We've just released an open-access dataset covering 528 large dams across Italy, with 100+ descriptors of their upstream catchments (from extreme rainfall to land cover, climate, and more).
🔎 Explore it: doi.org/10.5194/essd...!

Are extreme rainfall events intensifying in Italy? 🌧
In doi.org/10.1016/j.ej... we show that:
- short-duration ordinary extremes increase all over Italy;
- longer duration ordinary extremes exhibit negative trends in some areas;
- the most intense extremes vary more than the ordinary ones.

How has rainfall data resolution evolved over time? 🌧️
In our latest study, "A reassessment of the history of the temporal resolution of rainfall data at the global scale", we explored this question using a database of 126,438 stations across 77 nations.
