"Sometimes They Come Back" 🧟‍♂️

I agree, I consider programming in Rust just a better "ruleset" without the extra bag of GC, VM etc.

AI is another tool of tech automation, so will be robots (wait to see what will happen to many jobs when those will be ready). We are all destined to lose our current job for automation, but automation also creates new jobs BTW. But the costs of AI are a completely different and new story.
paolofabiozaino.bsky.social
This is what happens with every new tech my friend. No more people ironing horses right? No more people delivering ice. In our life we saw anaolg phone technicians job disappear, many accountants losing their jobs because computers made one accountant enough. It's not endemic to AI.

There is no match between productivity boost value AI produces vs investments and costs on the infrastructure.
paolofabiozaino.bsky.social
What is taking jobs is something else: Cheaper contracts, less interest on pushing certain markets and different interest rates. AI has become an investment panacea which is a lot more appealing to most CEOs seeking for investors money.
paolofabiozaino.bsky.social
I am not convinced, sorry. Boosting some people’s productivity as many other tools do, isn’t taking people’s jobs. Remember IDEs boosted dev productivity a lot compared to early editors, but we ended up also developing more features and more software.

'the hell? it's 4:36am... lol anyway, new UltimaVM PUSH/POP register range fast memory copy is done and there is also a little "twist" POP supports both strick LIFO (like the JVM) and natural order (like the ARM). Had to finish so late, because I had a hell of a busy day at work... Need some sleep!
paolofabiozaino.bsky.social
TBH, AI isn't doing anyone's job. It's just an exuse in the US to hire cheaper H1-B, and in the UK we do things in "secret", but yes same story, Loyds will move to India over 4000 IT jobs before the end of 2025. While the crazy money being used in AI is for infrastructure, so Data Centers, HW etc.

Get well soon and good to hear you're doing fine!

Added #JVM Stack Operations mapping to my #UltimaVM (see link). But I am thinking of adding indirect adressing:

PUSH.U64 [r0-r1] Push mem val from addr in r0 to addr in r1
PUSH.F32 [r0] Push val at mem addr in r0

I've been working on Ovation Pro to add extra scaling options to the picture proxy setting. For those who attended my @rougol.bsky.social talk, I explained the use of proxy images. Base/16, Base/32 & Base/64 now offer even smaller proxies, making for smaller document sizes.

Sure, but most folks use ADFS (especially on Emulators). but yes, thanks! :)

@lproven.bsky.social above more info on RISC OS Launchpad sir, hope it's useful.
paolofabiozaino.bsky.social
So even the most grumpy and demanding RISC OS user can't find an issue with it 😆
paolofabiozaino.bsky.social
Also Launchpad offers fully multi-tasking icons redraw and the search function is live. On old RISC OS 3 offers more icons and Apps in a single window than the Filer does! And it supports also categories (fully configurable by users!)
paolofabiozaino.bsky.social
And finally RISC OS !Launchpad also support configuring opening of the default window of an App automatically. No OS outthere has such level of configurability and features and everything is in a 56KB code.
paolofabiozaino.bsky.social
RISC OS !Launchpad also supprots MACRO creation and even Launch Group cration, where a user can create clicable macros and icons to launch, with a single click, a group of Applications all together and in the same other.

In a recent thread on here folks were talking about how useless is #RISC_OS Apps facility. Guys, let me remind that is a thing of the past. We have !Launchpad by years now that fully replace Acorn Apps (even on the old Archimedes) and gives all RO systems same features as macOS and Win 11 Launchpads
RISC OS !Launchpad is a modern and fully features Apps launcher for RISC OS which offers also internet search facility and a ton of utilities included easy file close, turn hourgass off etc. to make RISC OS experience easy and pleasurable for all users. RISC OS Launchpad is also fully theamable and even supports multiple icons layout and yes you can even configure icons size and distance! Do that on a mac! RISC OS Launchpad comes with many utilities (and more are coming) to make RISC OS experience easy. And did I mention it fully support Dark mode already? ;)
