🤔 Did you know Switzerland has already implemented fossil heaters installation bans? 😱

We reviewed their implementation since 2017 and found that
1️⃣they work👌
2️⃣funding & incentives make them more effective 💰
3️⃣ quasi-bans have a similar effect and avoid political backlashes🤓

👉 🇨🇭 New publication looks at policies to replace around 𝟵𝟬𝟬.𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 in Switzerland by 2050. 💡 Find all our recommendations in the paper below:

to achieve net zero in Switzerland around 900.000 fossil fuel heating systems must be replaced by 2050 This requires replacing fossil based heating systems 3 times faster than we do today for this, targeted subsidies and regulatory incentives are crucial. They enable heater replacement in combination with better insulation. However, regulations for heating system replacement, as well as subsidies, vary substantially across cantons.

#BREAKING—The #ProductionGap report finds gov'ts plan to produce more than 2x the amount of fossil fuels by 2030 than consistent with limiting warming to 1.5°C.

As gov'ts submit new national climate plans, they must transition away from fossil fuels.

So excited to see our article being published open source!🤓

This literature review distilled hundreds of academic articles on coal transitions to find out what policies where used, which worked the best, and what strategies for policy coordination and implementation were the best ones 👇

Expanding oil & gas in the Colombian Amazon is...
⚠️High risk—threatening 70% of Indigenous Peoples & local communities & nearly 43% of unprotected key biodiversity areas in the region
⚠️Low reward—97% of new blocks may be unprofitable in a 1.5C scenario.

In this recently published perspective article, we reflect on how to turn the table around, so that #JustTransitions don't come at the expense of climate targets, which need acceleration of action.

📢 President Biden has announced a 🇺🇸 target to cut emissions 61-66% from 2005 levels by 2035.

A coalition of states, cities and businesses representing half of US emissions is committing to work towards it regardless of the next federal government’s priorities.
