That’s absolutely got to be it. I had serious culture shock moving from northeast U.S. to London & discovered in my first winter there that my 1910 building *with 1990s updates* didn’t even have a fully insulated attic/roof. Our double pane windows were more insulated than most of our walls.

Sounds absurd but it’s especially true in their pre-war housing. Older units were built to accumulate heat in the bedroom(s) rather than facilitate cross-breeze for modern summers, but also UK has the worst insulation standards of Europe. Stuffy in summer & a damp mold incubator in winter.

I don’t see any issue with that, they standardize the shopping list across all 50 states. I think the bigger questions are how the survey is designed. For one, it’s been unchanged for 4 decades so it’s at risk of cherry picking items and doesn’t account for changing American food tastes.

This USDA report clearly states turkey prices increasing in 2025, in part due to avian flu outbreaks. Unless everyone is switching to serving chicken at their Thanksgiving table this year, I think it’s safe to call the Farm Bureau’s survey of reduced Thanksgiving prices as questionably reliable.

I do think a context people should keep in mind with anything coming out of AFB is this is the same lobbying group that’s spent a century pushing for monopolized industrial farms and denies the existence of climate change.

At 4:30am we got home and found the evidence (empty jerky bags) stashed under the trash can, solely because he tried to go back for more.

My black lab once snuck into the kitchen, devoured 5-6 lbs of beef jerky & hid the evidence (empty jerky bags). By 4am the emergency vet said “watch this”, pressed his stomach until he ripped ass on command, declared he “ate something salty” & sent us home w/ dog pedialyte as meds.

Would also add that it’s 100% true and yet doesn’t even have *that* great of a success rate in the U.S. (Biden generally flopping/helping tank Harris ‘24). If you’re importing a U.S. political strategy wouldn’t you want to pick a winner?

I do think some are confusing two subsets of folks still on Twitter. It’s def radicalizing many folks rightward, like those who went antivax from Meta algorithms, but guys like Noah are the ones feeding the vitriol not receiving it.

He feels safe saying the quiet part out loud now.

It’s ridiculous. All my friends in Maine have noted a huge groundswell of organic support for him across multiple factions of voters. Would be criminal to deflate that.

LePage never got 50% of the vote, so their newish rank choice voting system likely locks him out of returning (also he’s running for Congress against Jared Golden), and Mills was term limited so Maine Dems have a huge bench of younger talent in the wings. Makes this move even more infuriating.

I’m Margot’s age & that was a real thing. Anyone who read the books in high school had the film posters in their room in college….tons of 20 year olds with Twilight posters in the Recession…honestly maybe explains the Disney adults of today

It’s absurd. But how they say Bernard? Fantastic.

Anything that sounds remotely French they have to completely fuck up the pronunciation, they can’t help themselves.

Lynch wasn’t just a “Bernie guy”, he also dined at the Reagan White House. True, he wasn’t so “partisan”, but his art expounds ideology. His work is ensconced in aesthetic nostalgia for 50s “Moral” America & his favorite director was “Old Right”/libertarian Frank Capra.

Admired Reagan for his imagery of “acting” presidential. Lynch was essentially a pseudo-libertarian or small-c paleoconservative at heart who fortunately let his experiences inform his ideological stances (supporting BLM protests, LGBTQ rights, anti-nukes etc). Clint Eastwood’s Wario, basically.
