More in WTF HAPPENED: #WakingTheFeminists and the Movement that Changed Irish Theatre by Sarah Durcan with Lian Bell and No is Not a Lonely Utterance: The Art and Activism of Complaining by Sara Ahmed

Brilliant event @abbeytheatre.bsky.social today with Sarah Durcan, Sara Ahmed, and Catriona Crowe, chaired by Emma Dabiri. All about effecting institutional change, being a joyful killjoy, complaining, saying no, and not despairing in our desperate times #DublinTheatreFestival
Zoomed in on the Abbey main stage, which is dark, only the centre lit. In the background a screen showing a wall full of post-its, in front from left to right: Catriona Crowe, Emma Dabiri, Sara Ahmed and Sarah Durcan.

First time picking up a parcel from An post in Dublin nearly finished me off. I thought I had living here figured out until I had to bargain with the crypt keeper in some back alley to get my books that they supposedly tried to deliver while I was home without ever ringing the doorbell

Just posted a little summary of the 7th International Postgraduate Conference in Irish Studies over on the conference website. If I do say so myself, the conference was a complete success, with all papers featured being absolutely brilliant:

I almost missed it too, because it was only on for a few days. I have a feeling they'll do it again though as it seems to go down really well with audiences ☺️

I didn't expect last night to end with me bawling my eyes out over Imelda May's beautiful performance of Peter Sheridan's Mother of all the Behans, but there I was, sniffling my way through the final song, Molly Malone, alongside everyone else. So naturally, I'm headed to Glasnevin today

Have I officially been a member of the @ucddublin.bsky.social community for almost exactly two months now? Yes. Did I only just pick up my visiting student card now? Also yes.
A pebbled square seen through a window in the background, in the foreground a hand (mine) holding a green UCD student card, my thumb covering the data on it, only the picture part of the ID shown

Day five of #IASIL2025 which means it's time to say goodbye. The final panel and keynote did not disappoint, nor did the beautiful campus views that could almost make you forget you're on campus at all. Thank you to the organisers for such a beautiful and well-organised conference!
Woodsy view of trees and greenery, some orange blossoms towards the bottom left. The river and river banks under a grey cloudy morning sky Inside a lecture room, desks with people sitting at them, a speaker in the centre in front of a slide showing a German language newspaper article reading: Kreuz und quer durch die britischen Inseln Inside a large lecture theatre, the keynote speaker Vincent Cheng in front, reading from his notes in front of a slide showing a photograph of a young James Joyce next to the following text: the artist as a young man

Day four of #IASIL25 and we got to see a great variety of brilliant panels, had a beautiful time at the farewell BBQ, and discovered some incredible views on the walk home
A picture of a desk in a lecture room, on it a light pink pencil case, a white lanyard with dark red/pink name tag on it, and an open notebook, mostly covered by a handout about Juanita Casey Cheesecake at the farewell BBQ, served alongside some ice-cream on a small white plate, which is standing on a dark wood table A sign reading Welcome Study of Irish Literatures (IASIL) Conference. We hope you enjoy your evening. In the background a turquoise wooden wall and a black and white photo collage A calm section of the river Corrib at sunset, some greenery, white clouds on a light blue sky

Day 3 at #IASIL25 and it was my turn to speak - finally. The brilliant keynotes keep coming and we had some book launch drinks. Then a little walk before an early night in.
Tables in a lecture theatre, an open notebook with some writing visible on the left, a flyer for "Teaching John McGahern's The Dark" edited by Anna Teekell and Ellen Scheible covering the right side. A pen in the middle, a plastic cup of sparkling wine to the right of the notebook. The river Corrib in focus, greenery on the left and a blue big top tent. The sky above is grey, the water of the river dark. A view of a Galway street, centring a house sporting a mural Another mural, this one on campus, depicting a Ghaeltacht scene

Day two of #IASIL25 ft. my very serious conference outfit, the misery of Ireland, another great keynote, another round of pints, some live music and a whole lot of great panels
Mirror selfie, a blue door in the background, beige floor and white walls, in the centre me in black trousers, sneakers, a white shirt. Inside a lecture room, a few people seated at the tables, in front a slide reading "the misery of Ireland" and the speaker gesturing. It was a panel session on the reception of Irish literature in Japan. Another lecture theatre, a speaker up front looking at her laptop, the slide behind her showing the Spire in Dublin and a quite from Carys Coburn's Citysong and other plays, about the city being like a record that spins around the spire.

Day one of #IASIL2025 looked something like this: long walks, nature views, pints, chats, laughs. Plus a brilliant keynote by Gerardine Meaney.
Inside view of a pub, focus on a table with several drinks on it, as well as a vase of flowers. In the background, some people, their faces are out of the frame, as well as another table with drinks. View out of a dorm room window, grey clouds in the sky, greenery and a river in the distance. A snap of the river Corrib as it runs through Galway city, some buildings and trees on its banks. The water is dark and wild

Making the most of my limited time in Dublin means: seeing as many plays as I can (already saw The Pillowman @gatetheatredublin.bsky.social and The Cave @abbeytheatre.bsky.social) and going to the beach as much as possible
