I’ve seen people with vitiligo say they have trauma re: being compared to patterned animals + not to make humanizations of such animal characters have vitiligo.

(As you can guess from the wording, I don’t have vitiligo myself, but in your place I wouldn’t.)

Consider buying a reader that's not a Kindle. Kobo readers are a good quality, connect to Overdrive, and can easily have epubs loaded on them from anywhere. But any Android reader can install the e-reader apps of every platform.

I feel Kobo Plus is a great solution. It doesn't require exclusivity, so it's cost free for authors to enroll, whereas for readers it's only eight bucks a month. But it's so much less popular. Readers won't come if the catalog isn't as big, but writers won't abandon KU if the readers aren't there.
