Don’t these people tidy up after themselves? I thought it was only townies that didn’t take their litter home.

3/3 It's worth watching this film if you are unfamiliar with pheasant shooting. The total reduction of gamebirds to mere 'targets' is evident.
As is the fact that many landscapes have been totally modified over centuries, for the pleasure of the shooting classes.

2/2 At each of the 24 pegs, the shotgun cartridges had been collected & I found no evidence of lead-free ammunition being used.
Black Gold were the most popular cartridge - an expensive lead shot cartridge, used for shooting high-flying pheasants.

1/3 Pheasant shooting began on Oct 1st.
I walked up this beautiful chalk valley & evidence of a big day was left behind.
Here, 'high-flying' birds can be shot - they attract a huge premium for a day's 'sport'.

The shooting of ‘high’ birds is a form of animal abuse. This is because shooting is at the limit of the guns’ and cartridges’ capabilities and hence the likelihood of maiming is increased. ‘Winged’ birds litter the shoot; those whose necks are not broken by a 30 metre fall. Fair chase, my arse.

Perhaps we could use this opportunity to ask GWCT just how the ‘balance of nature’ was maintained before the invention of snares, shotguns, spring traps and poisons. It’s a mystery, isn’t it?

If you have any young ones, or know any young ones, or are related to any young ones, get them to register to vote.

Give them a kick up the arse by pointing out that unlike our two neighbours, due to PR, every vote matters! One day left. Message them now.

Fascinating but size isn’t everything. Leach’s Petrel (40-50g) is known to live 38 years; common pipistrelle (4-8g) 12 years. Compare that with red deer (100-300kg) where only 25% reach 8yo.

Correct. On the same day, we saw the biggest one.
