Husband and father of two. Anabaptist Christian (theologically evangelical, politically liberal). I guess that's good enough to start with.

The six stages of climate denial are: It’s not real. It’s not us. It’s not that bad. It’s too expensive to fix. Aha, here’s a great solution (that actually does nothing). And — oh no! Now it’s too late. You really should have warned us earlier.

So it begins...
Today, #KashPatel sent a letter to my counsel @markzaidesq.bsky.social threatening to sue & demanding I retract my MSNBC comments on his unfitness to serve as FBI Director. This follows his threats against media & political opponents, showing how he might act if confirmed. I stand by my statements.

When the full(ish) list of nominees was revealed, I suspected that Gaetz, Hegseth, Gabbard and Kennedy were just one bridge too far for the Senate. I think Patel may be as well. Maybe now that Mr. Trump will be a lame duck president, we might see more pushback. Time will tell.

(2) Perhaps a much better example would be Saul, who was Israel's first king after they demanded that the prophet Samuel, "appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have."

And look how well that turned out.

(1) Many evangelicals will justify their vote for Mr. Trump by citing King Cyrus, who allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile. "God can use anyone."

But the nation of Israel hadn't selected King Cyrus. They hadn't, as it were, "voted for him."

I have been hesitant to join here, only because I keep wanting to pronounce it as a Polish last name. "Blueski."
