There are different ways of being "better". It was "better" being a well-paid coal miner in the 1960s with reasonable housing & facilities, plus an assurance of work not just for you but for your sons (and for your wife and daughters in other industries deliberately located in the same pit village)

Yes, I think that's akin to my problem with the series- I didn't feel any enthusiasm for turning to the next page (so in the end I just stopped reading and switched to something lighter like J.G. Ballard, whose "Wind From Nowhere" & "Drowned World" have been in my thoughts quite a lot recently)

Not just Trump's speech, the whole event. It was all (even the Twitter invitation on December 19: "Be there, will be wild") designed with one aim, and the word "peacefully" in his speech was a legal fig-leaf.

Trump has been fixated on Richard Blumenthal for years and years, because he always needs a go-to example of blatant long-term lying by a Democrat, and RB (exposed way back in 2010 by the New York Times) is the best he's got- though FAR less outrageous than Trump claims
