I used to make comics on the internet, now I mostly get far too invested in advent calendars. I'm 'eruditebaboon' on all the other apps. www.eruditebaboon.co.uk

Toby and the Pixies: Worst King Ever has been included in this year's Great Books Guide from BookTrust that will be going out to schools all over the country! So many brilliant books in this, I'm very pleased to be included - see the full list here: www.booktrust.org.uk/book-recomme...

Through a complicated series of events, this weekend @neillcameron.bsky.social ended up drawing me as a sidekick for a donut in front of 600 children, who then went on to draw me too. Here are a few of the ones I saw - please note that they all made sure to draw my sweaty armpits.

And here's the process of pencils to final art. I'm only just now realising that I made the letters of 'the Phoenix' as cutouts by accident because I couldn't decide what colour to make them, but they kept that in for the final version. An accident? No, I am just subconsciously a visionary GENIUS.

For those interested in the Creative Process here's a video of my work on this, going from trying out a bunch of initial ideas, to finished pencils. I can't believe I abandoned 'It's Ghostin' Time'.

I did the cover for this week's issue of @the-phoenix-comic.bsky.social! I may have become addicted to rim lighting now.

And of course credit to @andreasschuster.bsky.social for the fantastic art - he brings just the right level of deranged energy to his illustrations!

This book contains so many mad little pixie stories, including my favourite one, where Toby's teeth all come to life and leap out of his mouth. Body horror for kids!

My newest book 'Toby and the Pixies: Pixie Pandemonium' is out NOW! I'd normally link to where you can buy it in the Phoenix shop but it has already SOLD OUT, so here's a link to Blackwells instead: blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/pro...
A boy in a red sweater sits at a dinner table, and he is shocked to see that all the vegetables have come to life with naughty little faces.

But perhaps that's just my inner critic talking.
patchworkofregrets.bsky.social
To be very clear, I absolutely do not recommend this method of working to anyone.
patchworkofregrets.bsky.social
I often have something playing to help drown out my inner critic, but it's always something I've either watched before, or something that I've picked specifically because it's terrible (I'm looking at you, Leverage: Redemption), so I don't have to pay any attention.
patchworkofregrets.bsky.social
Even weirder, I had the exact same thing. Or maybe, if we both did it, perhaps it's not weird at all.
That would be weird.

Maybe you can commission the artist to draw you some leg snake foot pics for your private collection.

Just to give you a preview of the sort of mind-bending science fiction horrors you might find inside, here is the villain, Dark Rectangle, revealing his latest, most terrifying invention yet:
A blue ractangle, with arms and legs and a face, and a cool purple cloak, pulls back a sheet to reveal a scaly snake with a single, hairy leg. The rectangle says: 'My leg snake! It's a snake with a leg!'. The leg snake, stomps its single foot, menacingly.

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could breed a dinosaur with the ability to do basic operations in a spreadsheet, they didn't stop to think if they should.

A lovely review of my new book, coming out this week!

We're revelling in the release of a new Star Cat collection from James Turner and Yasmin Sheikh. Unicorns in Space is delightfully silly and laugh out loud funny.

Yes! Scully very clearly sees a ghost, and then is all, no, obviously ghosts aren't real. But then there's an episode with a vaguely religious theme and suddenly Mulder thinks it's all fake, and Scully is completely on board. They love to do a role switch!
patchworkofregrets.bsky.social
Oh! I'm rewatching these too (finding new things to half-watch while I'm making comics is hard!) I did not remember the episodes being so slow, nor did I remember what a dick Mulder is.

Your half-remembered Latin is about as good as my lazy Italian name googling.

In case you weren't sure I was a real nerd, I drew a picture of my D&D character, Ippolito Sconosciute. #dnd
A rather weary looking man, dressed in the slightly tattered clothes of a renaissance era nobleman. He wears a jaunty feathered cap, a short cape, puffy sleeves, bright purple leggings, and the stupidest pair of shorts you've ever seen. At his belt hangs a longsword, a dagger, and a large pouch.

A big box of these arrived today (from space???). Coming to a book shop within a light year of you next month!
Three copies of the work of heartbreaking genius that is 'Star Cat: Unicorns in Space' (a comic book wot I wrote)
