It's a really well designed game. The ships are invisible in the night until illuminated by your shots. The submarines are even sneakier, they aren't revealed by your shots, but they scramble the row/column code of their grid location :D

That looks pretty damn glorious. But I'd use the term procedural instead of generative, in this day and age
