Retired ophthalmologist, daring to eat a peach. Somnolent liberal. Slava Ukraini!
And don't forget folks, that Tom came to the conclusion several years ago that Trump is indeed a fascist. I'm gonna guess that he'd say the same about Steven Miller, and probably several others. Let's put this to bed and move on.

I nominate Tom as the OFFICIAL BlueSky piñata! Everyone take a swing; you’ll feel sooo much better, and probably save the Republic while you’re at it.

Matt — Yes, many times.
Everyone else — What’s the difference? It is now and always has been inexcusable.

To reference an oft-used analogy, the Times own excellent reporting demonstrates that it’s raining (torrentially) outside, yet they still report a difference of opinion on the weather.

That’s the nature of government by Executive Order.

Deep breath, hug your kitty, keep doing the kind work you do with and for the bereaved and near-bereaved. They need you.
(Maybe take a Zofran …)
January 8, 2026 at 8:24 PM
No, the clear rebuttal is that NO authority has the right to kill you for not following orders.

It’s worth reading. They’re both in La La Land, just yearning for counterfactuals: maybe this, if only that, admitting they haven’t a clue as to how to rationalize or predict Trump’s motives and probable course of action, nor of his staff. Abram’s attempt to acquit Rubio is especially laughable.

True that they hate the HPV vaccine it because HPV is an STD. Nevertheless, Gardasil (HPV vaccine) is still on the “recommended” list.

Somebody’s worried about polygraph tests.
January 8, 2026 at 4:03 AM
That’s all we need. People, can’t we get over whether one writer will agree to call it fascism? It’s disgusting and illegal, as is the defense that the government is attempting to mount (to say nothing of its ludicrously costumed clown of a spokesperson.) Let’s go with what we can all agree on.
January 8, 2026 at 3:02 AM
Yeah,Sen. Foghorn Leghorn is on the case!
January 6, 2026 at 9:47 PM
These people know nothing of hypocrisy or betrayal. Why do we bother to endlessly point it out?
January 6, 2026 at 9:45 PM
I've been a fan since first reading you on The View From Nowhere x years ago.
Care to share any names of those more or less consistently found in your camp?
January 6, 2026 at 5:54 PM
Hypocrisy means nothing to these people, zero. To catch them in the act is less substantial than to catch a soap bubble. They don't care, nor do their supporters. There is nothing there. What do we think we have accomplished in so doing??
January 6, 2026 at 2:31 AM
He gives weasels a bad name!
January 6, 2026 at 2:24 AM
He's more of a creep than even the commenter acknowledges. He'd have accepted the prize and turned his back on her.
January 5, 2026 at 7:02 PM
He's talking, I believe, about a *second* dose of the 2025-26 vaccine.
Here is the current CDC recommendation for a previously-vaccinated 65+ year-old, clearly stating that two doses are recommended.

I agree with everything up to the last sentence. I am 81 years old. Never in my lifetime has the US made war look easy, quite the contrary. That we have so many armchair “generals” offering stupid advice to Ukraine only highlights that fact.
January 2, 2026 at 3:59 PM
Satire, right?
January 2, 2026 at 2:31 PM
Agreed, and yet I was taken aback by the … depth and breadth and height of her disdain!
January 2, 2026 at 3:30 AM
My overall impression is bemusement that Barbara Grizutti could pour such prodigious time and effort into a piece about someone whose writing she holds in profound contempt, yet which she appears at one time, at least, to have voraciously consumed.
January 2, 2026 at 2:07 AM
It will be counted as a major self-imposed tragedy of our time that we did not take advantage of the opportunity presented by Covid to learn and prepare for the next pandemic.
January 2, 2026 at 12:59 AM
If it’s not a toy, it’s in my way. Ho hum.
January 2, 2026 at 12:48 AM
Also … why do we never hear about the risk of AI taking over CEO jobs???
