I’m not Christian in any conventional sense, but I love this thought in John 9:3:

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him.”

A good thought whenever I behold something needing fixing.
Amazing.

Thanks for the gift link. I like the patrimonialism framing. I’m frustrated that voters ignored the corruption. I thought we’d condemn the corruption in his first term. I had read then that people won’t countenance it, yet here we are. I wonder how successors will try to rule.

I’m already missing the insightful posts about these themes:

“‘The view from nowhere’ and the ‘savvy style’ in political journalism both spread in this fashion, as did this mantra during the 2024 campaign: ‘Not the odds, but the stakes.’”

Otherwise Bethlehem might have had more housing; as it was, the Biblical billionaires had bought all the real estate.

This passage reminds me how ICE is detaining people *despite* their proof of citizenship: “The path the justices are walking leads to Calhoun’s paradise…where people of color must carry identification papers if they don’t want to be harassed, detained, imprisoned.” Again, the cruelty is the point.

This reminds me when, a decade or more ago, a woman found herself trapped somewhere and, instead of contacting the police, posted her predicament on Facebook.

More tragically, though, had John contacted the cops, Professor Loureiro may have been spared, no?
