I know the logical part of your brain isn't driving at that moment, but it's kind of funny because your risk of groundfall is basically all below the second clip.
You can do mental training and get past that if you'd like. The Rock Warrior's Way is the classic book on the topic. Helped me a lot.

A couple times a year in the 90s, my friend's mom would take a train from Ottawa with a friend or two, go shopping, watch a movie, have a dinner in Montreal, then take a train back with some friends. She did all this mid-winter, without having to step outside! Different strokes for different folks.

I think there's a generational hangover. I'm 39 and it has no more for me than any other shopping mall (which is to say not much), but some people in my parents' generation loved it when they were around my age. They lived in suburbs/exurbs, and "cities" might not have been as appealing.
