The ‘self-deception’ part of the title got my attention, without realising how profoundly integral it is to shedding yesterday’s version of self.

Read if you've ever wondered why others react to you in ways you don’t always understand.

If you want clients, write.

If you want better clients, write.

When you begin to experience perfect clients, and want more just like them, write.

There’s always a good reason to write. Especially in business or pursuing any other difficult thing.

I’d love to have learned this earlier in life.

We all suck in the beginning.

But despite how it feels, it’s probably a good thing.

Because while we’re doing the work, the work is working on us.

By the time the audience does show up, we’ll have something valuable to say.

So yeah, we all suck in the beginning.

It’s a rite of passage.

The more your “client-getting strategy” revolves around you reaching out to people, the less likely it is that those people are going to make excellent clients.

High-quality individuals tend to window shop in silence and then take big action when they’re ready.

Make content for these people.

Marketers will always try to guilt us into believing that whatever level of success we’re experiencing now is not enough.

It’s rampant wherever people are striving to better themselves.

Don’t let the bloody marketers get to you.

The scariest thing you'll need to confront, taking the “no growth-hacking” path, is that you really might fail.

And that failing person is the closest thing to the real you.

There’s no strategy or technique to blame.

You got nothing to hide behind.

And it’s fucking terrifying.

And that’s ok.

- If you're not running ads

- If you're not running outreach in DMs

- Then (by default) you ARE running content

So set a 45-min timer, your devices to ‘silent’ and lose yourself at the keyboard.

Repeat til your brain stops working.

Feel the pleasure of a good day's work.

Repeat tomorrow.

The fact is that you’re going to fail.
But who cares.

Most ‘failures’ are 3am imaginations that will never come to pass.

And the remaining failures are mostly lessons that we can stack like bricks as they build our success tower.

Much easier to win if you don't care about failing.

Everyone is trying to hold onto clients for life.

I say fuck that.

Let your clients go.

Help them — and set them free.

Increase your LTV by making better, interesting and useful stuff for people to WANT to buy. Not by making them reliant on you.
