2026 maps - our process is weird, but basically the General Assembly has to pass it in two sessions (so this past session and then again in Jan when the new session starts), then it goes to a statewide referendum in the spring elections to become law

N=1 but my choice to live in the South is probably impossible to disentangle from the fact that I grew up in the South and it feels familiar. However, I’ve also lived in the PNW, the Bay, and the Southwest, so it’s not like I’m completely trapped here by circumstance either.

Sure, but it’s also not pure circumstance either - people will apply to colleges in places they want to live, for example. I think the reasons people live in the specific place they do are pretty tough to parse out and they almost certainly don’t fit neatly into a choice vs. circumstance dichotomy.
