On the other hand, "Understanding Society Topic Champion" must also be right up there when it comes to terrible role titles!

Sweep's not looking well.

Well I know of them, of course, and have seen Donald Duck cartoons when they used to show them on TV when I was a child, but I haven't seen the comic versions you were referring to.

I was confused by this for a moment, thinking "But it's Monday...?"

I did enjoy her using her Jilly Cooper tribute statement today to slag off a sitcom director from 54 years ago.

Well, I can't comment on any of that because I have never seen any of those things. So I think you'll just have to chalk it up to cultural differences! :)

Wow, that's certainly quite different to what they ended up with! Fascinating, thank you!

I always particularly enjoyed the appearances of the Little Squelchy Things.

To give a dully serious answer, I was a huge Beano fan as a child, but my memory is I mostly enjoyed the characters and stories rather than finding it funny, as such? Although I do remember laughing a lot at the Calamity James strips. Biffo, in his mute era then, was not a favourite of mine, though.

Oddly, Roddy seems a bit more Hanna-Barbera than DC Thomson.

I don't think it's something I could ever feel safe or confident doing.

I love writing, but some things just work better on the radio... Even, oddly, when they're about pictures...

Today is the 63rd anniversary of the London premiere of Dr. No, which means (well, obviously) it’s time to tell you a ridiculous shaggy dog story about the theft of not one but two portraits of the Duke of Wellington
Sean Connery in Dr No’s lair, about to go up a short flight of stairs when he spots a portrait of the Duke of Wellington on a stand. The original had been stolen from the National Gallery the previous year, and this was a joke by the Bond production team

I remember seeing AA Gill on some "Top 100"-type programme 20-odd years ago talking about reading his mum's script for this one and being appalled at what a hoary old traditional sitcom it was and how Cleese had let them all down, and then being blown away by the actual finished production.

Very few people left now who did anything of note on-screen on TW3... Maybe only Millicent Martin?

I don't remember this!

I was born in 1984 and don't remember ever being aware of anybody who didn't have a phone in my childhood. Certainly I think I would have regarded it as unusual and strange if I had.

Inexplicably, it hasn't made national headlines! Thank you! I am, as you might imagine, very excited about it all!

That's when it started in the US - it then started on the BBC in 1990, and Sky later picked up the first run rights to later seasons, but I am pretty sure they didn't start showing it before the BBC did.

Did it not start on the BBC before only later making its way to Sky further into the 1990s?

The very first episode of 'Joe 90' was released 57 years ago today.

Your week won't get any better than this, trust me.
