Well, here you go, friends. Some reflections on truth-telling, grief and uncertainty in fragmented times. You can get it via Amazon, or you may well prefer to order from your friendly local bookshop or directly from the publisher (dartonlongmantodd.co.uk/.../2414-978...) Thanks!

I’m sorry to see that Nicholas Grimshaw has died. His architecture has enriched the world. It’s a privilege to live on the same street in Bath as this iconic piece.

At the newly rehung National Gallery, sitting with the finest depiction of innocence in Western art. “Christ mocked” by Hieronymus Bosch.

Rereading Theodore Zeldin's fine book "The French" (1983). Here's a cartoon that has not aged.

From Ben Jennings of the Guardian. Accurate, and saddening.

This, too, is a Christian voice.

A Pope Francis cartoon by Joe Heller. Wouldn't it be good to be remembered this way? www.ncronline.org/files/styles...

After a difficult couple of weeks it was good to attend Bath Quaker meeting and to sit with Friends in the gathered silence. A spacious gift, gratefully received.

Truth matters. That we should hold fast to truth (not “my truth”, but the truth) and if we’re not sure, that we should take trouble, read and listen and discern, to find what it is.

A great privilege to have been able to attend Don Cupitt’s funeral this morning. A richly textured celebration of a rich and full life. I remain grateful to Don for teaching me to think, and for stripping away some of the barnacles so as to streamline my bumbling voyage on the sea of faith. RIP.

It's hard to do this, I agree, but we need to condemn Trump's foolishness (for example on Gaza) while attempting if at all possible to ignore the man himself. Jeremiads against coming fascism will not stop the juggernaut. Detailed and careful policy resistance, it seems to me, is what we need most.

I want to honour here the life of Don Cupitt, who died recently. A radical, faithful, courageous, consistent theologian, so helpful to me in earlier years, and to so many others. Memory eternal.

I remember a meal with John and Pauline Prescott at the Cunard anniversary in Liverpool - funny, down-to-earth yes, but also the only guy round the table who had worked in that industry and who, really, understood it. Of how many other politicians could you say the same, in any industry whatever?
