2013 seems like another world now, that's when I met Udo Kier at some fancy Hollywood thing in Palm Springs, we chatted about Fassbinder & he said he was making a movie in Ireland & would look me up. It didn't happen but it was a privilege to meet him. Rest in peace, Udo, you maniac, you sweet man.

Musk's right hand man Steve Davis pulling a George Costanza here and simply turning up for work the day after being fired.
Davis was not present at the meeting but joined via telephone. He, too, offered reassurances and then said he did not intend to go anywhere, a remark interpreted by the group to mean he would rejoin the federal government perhaps in a different capacity. Attendees clapped in response. But within days, they realized that was not what Davis meant at all. Despite being let go by the White House, he intended to stay on as the de facto head of DOGE. It would be “business as usual,” Davis took to telling people.

I know this all looks completely normal to the pol corrs but to the rest of us, it can look like a guy who followed orders, fucked his country but looked after the institutions, and is now being rewarded for his obedience.

very quietly, without anyone knowing, I applied for scholarships. I was accepted into Cambridge but very quickly decided I didn’t want to go there. Why was that? Well, my father was one of the several civil servants sent to build the new capital, literally: the roads, the houses, the infrastructure. So I’ve always been obsessed with the 1950s and the independence of India because of that time—the idealism, the building of a country that was struggling under the yoke of being colonized for more than a hundred years. India, you know, had been such a syncretic country before, with Muslims, Hindus, Christians all standing together cheek by jowl. I had a big chip on my shoulder about the British.

I found what seems to be a signed copy of Francis Stuart's book Black List: Section H in a little Kinsale shop. He's most famous for having decided it was a good idea to work in Nazi Germany as a propagandist in the early 40s, and for marrying (and allegedly beating) Iseult Gonne, daughter of Maud.
