While taking a few photos of last night's lunar eclipse here in London (at 8.43pm local time) I happened to catch an image of a plane flying in front of the moon. #lunareclipse

First image of the season! We moved to South-West London (Bortle 8!!!). I set up the telescope to try out a new filter - a Sightron LPS-C1 that excludes the wavelengths in LED streetlights. This is the Fireworks Galaxy.

Excellent #HistoricalFiction book set largely in the area of North-West Ireland I grew up in, but in 60AD! Great characters, lots of genuine historical detail, and a well-written narrative.

The Leo Triplet imaged last night from my backyard in Wokingham. Esprit 100ED, ASI 294MC Pro, no filter. There was some random fog blowing through which I think has resulted in some blurring. #astrophotography

A rare combination of new moon and clear skies gave me the chance to image the famous Horsehead Nebula. This was taken with no filter under Bortle 5 using a cheap "planetary" camera (ASI 662MC) on a Skywatcher 100ED. 90x120secs. #Astrophotography

I was most amused by this "bar chart" that I saw posted recently by an astrophysics PhD student discussing the consequences of a non-zero base for the Y-axis. Would Lib Dems ever do such a thing to make a three horse race look like a two horse race? Perish the thought!

The Orion Nebula imaged last night from my backyard. Esprit 100ED, ASI 294MC Pro, 90x120secs. First time I've tried Bin1 on the 294. My 7 year old computer got so hot processing on PixInsight that it threw a wobbly and crashed! 😂 Might be time for an upgrade! #Astrophotography
